Commercial Description:
Our version of the "Wee Heavy" Strong Scoth Ale style is literally a batch of MacPelican's Scottish Ale brewed with half the water and twice the boiling time to create a beer with a massive malty flavor and a deep red color. The aroma hints of rich caramel, cocoa, toffee, and tropical fruit, with a full-bodied mouthfeel and a velvety sweet, slightly dry finish. A robust beer with a dangerous, drinkable smothness!

22oz bomber poured into a tulip. Pours a dark mahogany that shows a deep, clear copper when held up to light. There’s a small creamy beige head that recedes fairly quickly and doesn’t leave much lacing behind. The aroma is light and sweet with lots of caramel malts and brown sugar. There’s also some fruity sweetness that I can’t quite identify though I could swear it smells almost like a cherry lollipop. Crazy, I know. The taste is just as sweet and I can definitely taste the cherry/grape lollipop flavors again. The underlying caramel malts are present with hints of smoky peat, but the overwhelming flavor is the sugar sweetness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with good carbonation and sticky sweet on the palate. This is one of the sweetest wee heavies I’ve ever tasted but with a sugary character that seems almost artificial. It’s a decent beer but certainly not the same caliber as the other Pelican beers I tried.

bomber - pours clear, reddish brown with faint white head; thin, syrupy, stale and malty; fruity, bready aromas; pretty blah flavor wise IMO

Bottle shared at Logan’s 2009 pre-GABF Party. Brownish-orange pour. Sweet aroma but lightly hoppy. Dull and somewhat watery taste. In my opinion, this was just not very good, especially given the buildup from the aroma.

Thick, syrupy malt backbone. Deep grainy body that was ridiculously chewy. Heavy fruit notes with toffee and molasses. Oily and a little vegetative. Messy drink.

dark/burnt caramel brown. nose: oxidized caramel malt, burnt maple, light notes of acetone, dirt/soil/minerals. chewy, syrupy, over-sweet approach. medium body, turns mildly frothy in the finish with a black pepper and spiced molasses note. finish is resinous and deeply rich, but it’s really the only positive attribute of this beer. not one of their best efforts.

Bottle at Liquid Sunshine. Pours red-amber, with a poor head and little lacing. Fruity, sweet, grassy, caramel. It’s a bit boozy, and rather sweet, but interesting nonetheless.

sweet caramel thistle aroma, simple, warm with heat, strong roast, leathery tannic finish.

Thanks to Skyview for sharing this one. This is a very earthy beer, with dirt and vegetable flavor. Quite sweet with malt, no perceivable hops. Very smooth, but thick and heavy also. The alcohol is well hidden. It becomes sweet and the palate smoother as it warms.
