2010 (Mother of All Storms) - Stormwatchers Winterfest 2009 aged in Evans Williams bourbon barrels.
2011 (Mother of All Storms) - Stormwatchers Winterfest 2010 aged in Heaven Hill bourbon barrels.

There are many storms out there, all of them perfect in their own way. But there is only one Mother of all Storms and it only happens in Pacific City, Oregon. Based on Stormwatcher’s Winterfest, our English-style barleywine, Mother of all Storms spent many months aging in Kentucky bourbon barrels. Now at its peak, Mother of all Storms delivers deep flavors of toasted malt, bourbon and oak. The finish rewards with whispers of vanilla, toffee and caramel. Best enjoyed with gusts exceeding 60 mph.

Shared bottle with Timfoolery. This bottle was full of sweet malty goodness aka SMG. If you’re a fan of sweet full flavored beer then this ones for you. Hits the palate with Carmel and molasses just like a barley wine should. WOW!!

22 oz bottle shared with the group in 2012 (from notes) and a few times since. Pours an amber brown color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have big sweet caramel and buttery toffee, bourbon, vanilla, dark ripe fruits, raisin and oak with just a hint of char. Early it was a bit boozy, but that calmed down with warming. Assertive and on the sweet side, but this is a solid beer.

2012 bottle shared by Tommy. I’ve had this before but do not remember it being so damned sweet. Holy shit, I could hardly drink a sip of this. Super cloying, syrupy and sugary sweet. Some light oak, big sweet bourbon, vanilla, and caramel. Woo boy. Too much for me.

Lothore (454) - California, USA - MAR 29, 2014
A- Pours a very dark, reddish brown with a small brown head that fades quickly. S- Very oaky, deep bourbon notes, brown sugar, caramel, hints of toffee. T- Dark fruits up front, fig and plum followed by a wave of bourbon, brown sugar and faint piney hops. M- Thick with medium carbonation. D- Extremely drinkable for a beer this big. So well rounded. The strong and complex malt presence complemented perfectly by an equal wave of bourbon on the back end.

Bottle at the Triad bottle share at Foothills organized by Mike. Luscious profile of dark fruits, chocolate, coconut, and toffee. Almost stout like in its darkness. Velvety and damn good.

Sample from bottle at Nieuwjaarsborrel 2014, 2011 vintage, thanks for sharing Kermis! Pours almost dark brown with a reddish glow and a small off-white head. Aroma is boozy, dark fruits, wood, caramel and boubon. Taste has caramel, dark fruits, some chocolate, quite sweet and some alcohol. Over medium body and medium carbo.

Bottle at Mr Hangover’s 2014 Nieuwjaarsborrel, Den Haag and courtesy of Kermis. Poured a clear dark brown with a bubbly tan round head. The aroma is pure malt ovaltine maltesers caramel. The flavour is medium to strong bitter medium sweet with a rich malty boozy alcoholic liqourice chocolate palate. Full bodied with flat carbonation. An oily mouthfeel with a long smooth bitter finish. A superb beer. Well deserving of the rating. Might get a little sickly after the second pint though :-)

Bottle shared at Nieuwjaarsborrel thanks to trade with Troganmi. Pours brown with a tiny ring beige head. Aroma has massive, wood, malt, light vanilla, cookies, light overripe dark fruits. Flavor is heavy sweet. It’s like drinking boozy maltesers with molasses. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle at Nieuwjaarsborrel. Pours cloudy brown with no head. Huge aroma of wood, caramel, raisin, ripe fruits, banana, bourbon and booze. Taste is very sweet and moderate bitter. Full bodied and quite sticky. Long fruity finish. Amazing beer. Very complex and yet very smooth. Incredible.
