3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle:   Deep ruby, very dark, thin spritzy off-white head, dies quickly, very little lacing.   Seemed to be more at the beginning of the bottle than at the end.   Strong dark pitted fruit, Bourbon, vanilla, graham cracker, and alcohol on the nose.   Seems fairly hot and boozy.   Oh yeah, definitely warming on the tongue.   Some fire is there.   Make that a lot of fire!   If you have a bottle of the 2009, I suggest you sit on it for at least 6 months, maybe a year.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Warming finish.   Very flavorful, but also boozy.   I see great things for this beer if you wait on it for a bit.   Enjoyable, but the alcohol and heat detract a bit.   However, it is a really tasty sipper!   Thanks Bob!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
2012 bottle. Dark brown/ruby shade with ring of tan foam. Aroma is heavy on dark, sticky fruits, adding wisps of chocolate, smoke and a lighter-than-expected bourbon presence. Taste is brimming with sticky toffee and barrel influence. Hint of anise spiciness in the finish. Thick mouthfeel with no real trace of heat. I think Iíve had more complex barleywines, but few as delicious and easy to drink. A superb example.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Brouwerís Big Wood 2013. Honestly? This smells like a fruit roll-up. Artificial cherry, and it tastes like a sweet, young barley wine. Not bad, but this was definitely not my favorite.

2.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Something isnít right here... 2012 vintage. Pours a copper color with a finger of eggshell foam. Rich burnt toffee, caramel and a touch of boozy fig notes. The palate was all wrong... weird, thin, slightly fishy with traces of black tea and burnt marshmallow. Not sure whats going on here but it was poured into the campfire at the end of the night. Hmmm ?

2012 bottle. Pours with a light brown with garnet highlights. minimal head that dissipates quickly nose full of vanilla and malt sweetness/sugar, some dried cherries. Taste is similar with a thick, viscous mouthfeel. some warming on the back end, slightly hot/fusely. Besides, the noticeable alcohol, a great beer. I donít remember it being this "hot" in years past.
