Just as red lanterns were once used to guide fishing boats to home base at the end of the day during foggy winter weather, our Red Lantern IPA is the perfect way to end your winter day. Born from our brewer’s love of hops and craving for a deep caramel backbone, the rich red color and medium body delivers just the right balance. Copious amounts of El Dorado hops give Red Lantern a clean hoppy finish.

UPDATED: APR 11, 2014 Serving: from tap at Filiberto’s Italian Restaurant. Aroma: light citrus and pine hop. Appearance: average-sized, creamy, off-white, initial head with very good lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Clear, dark-amber body. Taste: lightly bitter, piney initial flavor and lightly bitter, citrusy finish with long duration. Palate: medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Overall: excellent. Very good aroma and flavor to match. Interesting and easy to drink.

Clear red, with a small white head. Aroma is sweet grapefruit, a little pine, and some caramel to round it out. Taste is pithy, but sweet, with much less caramel. $1.5/12oz

Tap @ Flying Pie: clear copper color with a nice off-white head. Interesting aroma of pepper perhaps, fruity aroma of mild grapefruit, and musty apples. Musty flavors of toasty hops with a bitter aftertaste. This one is different but nice to drink.

Bottle (22oz $5.50): Clear dark red with two finger off white head. This starts out sweet and finishes dry because of the bitterness. Good but will not be put on the "regular" list.

I really enjoyed this beer, lots of nice bitterness, a lovely amount of warm malts and a finish that was neither too dry or sweet.

Another good IPA from yet another Oregon micro-brewery. This one is named after lanterns that guide fisherman to shore on foggy winter nights.

Not a fan. I love pelican beer but this is not one I'll ever get again. I wouldn't even put it remotely in the ipa category

Bottle from World Market, I believe. A: Dark red with some light red highlights around the edges. Thick off-white head. N: Peppercorn, biscuit, earth, a hint of pine, touch of grapefruit. The promised caramel does show up underneath. .Bready and a little spicy, but not very complex. T: Moderately sweet, more on the bitter side, but this tastes rather muddled. M: Medium body, creamy carbonation, alcohol is hidden. A touch watery, not resinous. O: Fine, not great. Everything kind of gets thrown into the bottle, it seems, and there’s not much complexity to tease out here. Very much average.

Bomber from Made in Oregon. Pours hazy dark copper with a creamy beige head. Aroma is sort of fruit and melon. Med body. Flavor of mild, slightly roasted caramel, and hop that seems apricot/melon. It’s bitter, but balanced, not harsh. Finishes just a bit more malty than I might like it. A drink that’s laid back.

Enjoy by Aug 12, 2014 It pours a dark red with a 1 finger head of foam, and leaves some light lacing behind. It smells of citrus hops, some pine, and a bit of a malty note here and there. It’s kind of bitter; I get some grapefruit, a little bit of pine, but there’s a solid malt backbone in this red IPA. Just enough sweetness to balance things out. A good brew for folks who like balance. Not so much for real hop heads. Medium body, same for the carbo. Good mouthfeel that has some bitterness in the finish. A good brew.
