COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Drink a beer, save a butterfly!

Silverspot IPA holds a permanent slot in the Pelican lineup with its brilliant gold color and assertively complex hop aroma. Brew Master Darron Welch selected the blend of Sterling, Fuggle and Meridian hops, focusing on herbal, floral, spicy and tangerine-like characters to create this highly drinkable 6% abv English-Style IPA.

Silverspot IPA celebrates the Oregon Silverspot butterfly which once flourished in coastal grasslands from Washington to California. Due to habitat loss, this threatened butterfly is now found only in a handful of protected areas. The Oregon Coast is home to most of these sites including nearby Mt. Hebo and Cascade Head, which can be seen from the patio of the Pelican Pub & Brewery. Oregon Silverspot butterflies depend on a unique ecosystem of coastal grasslands, with caterpillars feeding on violet leaves and butterflies drinking the nectar of flowering plants. A collaborative habitat restoration and reintroduction program is helping to increase this butterfly population. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this beer will help fund conservation efforts for the Oregon Silverspot Butterfly.

Sampled at DLD 2013. It poured a yellow/golden pour with a white head. The aroma was of mandarin oranges, tropical fruit notes, some artificial candy notes and a bit of hay. The taste was sweet and hoppy with a little bit of yeastiness in the middle and finishes florally hoppy. Very good.

Tastes like "Drifter" with a bit more bite - If I had my eyes closed and someone slid a glass of Silverspot in front of me I would have guessed it was a Widmir Drifter. Caramely - Citrus -Grapefruity - Quite nice!

Poured from a 22 ounce bomber. Noticeable oxidization. Hops are citrusy, pine, resin. The malt character is subtle. would be better fresh.

Bomber poured a clear gold with a lasting creamy off white head. Aromas of biscuit, earthiness and light citrus. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of biscuit, straw, earthiness and light citrus with a smooth dry lingering earthy finish.

Bomber from Bottleworks. Clear, orange-gold pour with a short, persistent white head leaving moderate lace. Nose is quite balanced, with some pine and toasty malt. Medium body with very fine carbonation yielding a creamy mouth feel. Some pine resin and citrus, but mostly biscuit and toast, with some nuts - definitely a British-style malt bill on this one and a British balance, though not as smooth and full-bodied as the best British IPAs. Finish is short and balanced, with some bitterness and more toasty, nutty malt flavors. A very good British-style IPA; unfortunately even the best British IPAs don’t come out on top against the average West Coast IPA in my book. I do love the fact that this is a 6%er!

Hazy amber color, bright, with medium sized compact head. Gentle hop and fruit aroma, some zesty lemon.
Good body strength, lean mouthfeel; fresh malt and toffee flavor, with good hopping and bitterness level, also nice fruity character (peachy), and some interesting zesty hop resin in the final.
Luckily not so English as claimed on the label.
Not explosive, just very well balanced and fresh. Excellent.

Really liked this light IPA. Had it on tap at the brewery. It has a nice tangerine theme running through your sips. Not very hoppy but I like it that way. Smooth with a finished taste the the other Pelicans.

Clear orange-gold with big, foamy white head / Subdued, musty nose of dried citrus, resin, and clothes closet / Medium body, lively carbonation, dry, a touch thin, with otherwise good balance and bitterness / Mellow but elegant flavors of tangerine peel, soap, resin, herb, and straw / Once I got over the notion that this isn’t an American-style pale, I really enjoyed it.
