Commercial Description:
Stormwatcher's Winterfest is the perfect brew to savor on a stormy Oregon Coast day. Its deep amber-red color, massive toasted malt, toffee and caramel aroma, and full-bodied malty flavor lead to a smooth, soft and warming finish. The floral aroma and flavor highlights come from Hersbrucker hops, while a toasted malt sweetness balances a mild, subtle bitterness in the finish. Its big, rich flavor makes it the ideal complement to nasty weather!

18-Jan-08 (Draft: 2008 Great Alaskan Beer and Barley Wine Festival in Anchorage, AK) 2006 release. Ahh, the elusive Stormwatchers! This is a great barley wine. The nose is sweet, fruity and malty, and the aroma really heightens the anticipation. The flavor really delivers; like the aroma, it’s very fruity, intensely malty and very sweet. Hops are lightly bitter and well-integrated. Full-bodied, big and heavy, fairly syrupy actually. The beer ends up being a little cloying, though there is a modest zing on the palate that helps in that department. Medium-brown in color with dark ruddy highlights. The small, tan head settles to a wide ring. Overall, it’s a bit too sweet, but nevertheless, this is an intensely flavorful barley wine that easily stands up to the better barley wines from Alaska, and that’s really saying something.

Poured a hazed brown-amber color with an off-white head. The aroma was of aged malt with nice notes of fruit and raisins. Mild oxidation. The flavor was of raisins, caramel and molasses. Sweet with a full body.

Shared by Goldtwins at Paul’s Hoboken gathering...Hazy deep amber in color, with a tan head. Aroma of alot of molasses, dark fruit, and lightly yeasty. Taste is alot of caramel/molasses, sherry- plums and raisins, nice and full bodied and relatively smooth, some light bready yeast. Finishes with lingering fruit, caramel sweetness, and a light to moderate hop bitterness. So far this one is aging extremely well. One of the highlights for me at the tasting, thanks Larry!
