This is a great barley wine. The nose is sweet, fruity and malty, and the aroma really heightens the anticipation. The flavor really delivers; like the aroma, it’s very fruity, intensely malty and very sweet. Hops are lightly bitter and well-integrated. Full-bodied, big and heavy, fairly syrupy actually. The beer ends up being a little cloying, though there is a modest zing on the palate that helps in that department. Medium-brown in color with dark ruddy highlights. The small, tan head settles to a wide ring. Overall, it’s a bit too sweet, but nevertheless, this is an intensely flavorful barley wine that easily stands up to the better barley wines from Alaska, and that’s really saying something. jcwattsrugger (3793), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Jun 6, 2008 bottle@Pauls Hoboken#1-thanks goldtwins–pours a tan head and mahogany/red color. Aroma of alot of molasses, dark fruit, and lightly yeasty. Taste is alot of caramel/molasses, sherry- plums and raisins, nice and full bodied and relatively smooth, some light bready yeast. Finishes with lingering fruit, caramel sweetness, and a light to moderate hop bitterness. So far this one is aging extremely well. One of the highlights for me at the tasting, thanks Larry!
