Midnight black color and rich dark-roasted aroma. Specially blended hops combine with flaked unmalted barley to give this brew a full body and a dense creamy head. All elements combine in a solid, lingering finish.

At a tasting at KyotoLefty’s place. A dark brown oily pour with a thick pungeant wine like edge to the solid stout taste.

Really liked this one. Aroma was full of roasted grains. Appearance dark stout, typical color. Taste was really good nicely balanced, not too roasty, malty, or bitter, just right. Great beer, just wrong side of the country. If it was local it would be a regular buy.

Tap at Pelican brewpub. Pours an opaque bloack with higher foam. Great lacing. Nose is richer roast, sea brine, umami. Taste is soil, roast, earth, bitter bakers chocolate. Palate is clean, lighter than expected. Nice bitterness. Tailor made for a GABF entry.

Bottle. Pours black with thick mocha head. Smell is sweet chocolate, caramel, roasted malts, dark chocolate. Taste is dark dark roasted malts, dark chocolate, sweet chocolate, some coffee. Tinge of hop bite in the end. This is really solid. In the days of summer time saisons and lighter offerings, this was a nice mix up. But a really good stout.

On tap at the brewery. Black with a brown head. Aroma of slight chocolate and roast. Sweet, sugar-like flavor. Mouthfeel is full, rich and creamy.

Drank on tap at the Pelican Pub. Was expecting more given the reviews here on Ratebeer, but was underwhelmed. Low carbonation (which I actually like, but it couldn’t retain much of a head), and it tasted rather forgettable. Definitely not a Rogue!

August 2012 bottle. Black pour with a quickly fading brown head. Roast, cocoa, bitter chocolate, and oat in the aroma. Bitter chocolate dominates the flavor with richer cocoa notes, roast, oat, the sligtest twinge of malt sweetness, and perhaps some complimentary hop bitterness underneath the roast through the finish. Clean mouthfeel. Big on flavor with relatively low ABV and well-made - excellent beer.
