COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Midnight black color and rich dark-roasted aroma. Specially blended hops combine with flaked unmalted barley to give this brew a full body and a dense creamy head. All elements combine in a solid, lingering finish.

22oz Bottle. The pour was a pitch jet black with an average (1-2 finger) light cocoa brown rocky head that was mostly diminishing, down to a thin film and small collar with poor runny lacing. The aroma was very robust of a burnt biscuit mat, light resin hops and a strong earthy yeast with notes of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, molasses, vanilla, a mild smokiness and a slight alcohol tinge. The taste was bitter sweet with a nice malty feel and had notes of bitter chocolate and molasses from the beginning, progressing slightly into a purely bitter taste with a huge coffee presence and a mild smoky finish. The flavor lasted a very long time after the swallow with a bold smooth bitter coffee taste left to linger for quit a while. Mouthfeel was full in body with a dry, oily texture and a solid medium carbonation. Overall this was a boldly robust brew with a strong bitter mocha / coffee taste that is offset slightly by a mild sweetness, and was done very well may I say. Making this a very enjoyable tasty brew with a superb drinkability...

Well, it looks like a stout: as black as sin with only a suggestion of mahogany in the dimple of the glass and a crema of latter coloured head. It smells of stout: chocolate, dusty cocoa, licorice and some floral violet. It tastes of stout: a little charry with flaky grain and surprisingly juicy flavours. It is medium-bodied with a sherbety mouthfeel and a faintly astringent finish. So, my immediate thought is that this beer is a stout. Well, duh. However, it is an archetypal stout. Bang on in all the categories it should be however there’s just something about it that fails to capture my imagination. I should be grateful to find it here on these foreign shores at all, but I was looking forward to something altogether chewier and fulsome. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s lovely.

(22 oz bottle) Yes I get it. Very clever use of roasted things to give the lovely chocolate nose and body, lovely soft middleness and palate pleasing IBU levels makes this a really easy drinking beer. Not however spectacular but pretty awesome the same. Found that I didn’t feel the need to have to balance this with food and on it’s own was good enough. Wanted it to be ’richer’ or ’fruiter’ but that would then have made me explode with happiness, as it is I’d suggest get in!

Always good to have an American stout that does taste like a stout, and not some Jaegermeister herbal crap. There’s plenty of dark chocolates here, with some tart red fruit up on the aroma, and a nice creamy feel. Tart, bitter in the finish. Not with the vegemite/soy sauce of many other foreign stouts, but still very nice.

Licorice aroma nicely complements the tart flavour that follows. A good example of the style but many others are better.

Roasted nose. Roasted malt bitter slightly coffee. Creamy thick mouthfeel. Warming high alcohol. Addition of hops adds to an already reasonably bitter profile. Good but nothing particularly special!

Big ups to Homer321 for bringing this to RBSG to share with me, then accidentally leaving it in my cooler so that I could share it with friends in a location remote from my dining room.
Pours black with a small head and some lacing on the glass.

The aroma is ashy with some licorice, some black strap molasses, light chocolate, and lighter hops.

The flavor possesses a very satisfying but somewhat bracing level of bitterness, it’s got molasses & dark chocolate all over the place. The beer is very roasty and mildly sweet featuring a dry-ish finish.

A cool beer I had always wanted to dry. Thanks homie!

Poured from tap to glass. Dark hue with creamy brown head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, cherry, straw, molasses. Mouthfeel is nice with medium body and soft carbonation. Taste is sweet initially with astringent following and clean finish. Overall a nice shelf stout.
