Hailing from the industrial city of Düsseldorf, "Alt" (the German word for "old") uses the old method of brewing. An exceptionally smooth and delicate brew is accomplished by utilizing ale yeast and maturing it in a lager cellar. It has a dark amber color and a good bitterness to balance the malty body. This beer is extremely drinkable and because it is unlike the lager beers that Penn Brewery traditionally produces, it is like our alter ego.

On draft. Cooper color with one finger head. Really sweet malt aroma. Taste is really malty too. Not a fan of this alt.

On tap at the wedding. Pours a golden color with a small eggshell head. A nice sweet nose with some caramel. The flavor is a smooth crisp lager with some light bitter hops, more sugary sweetness a bit of biscuit, long lasting flavor in the finish of biscuit and mild hops. Very enjoyable.

This was a very nice beer, light cola color, carbonation a bit high, nice head but no lacing, very nutty and some spices.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2012 $2.25 for a small eight ounce glass. A little more golden than the ubiquitous pale yellow american lager beer, but just as clear. Aroma is rather candy like. Nice thick white head that does not fade. Taste is rather friendly, lacking any hop bitter bite but has enough personality to let you know this you are drinken German style beer. Good tingly carbonation for a tap. Finish is mildly bitter and hangs for a while. Rather enjoyable, just what I was expecting for an alt. Nice beer from Penn. Only available on tap at the brewery.
