4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at the brewery this past weekend-served with Godiva chocolate-which is always fun.
A- Being that this was a nitro-tap the appearance is perfect. Served with a wonderful frothy, creamy 3 finger or so creme brulee colored head. Perfect retention at 1 finger with lacing all the way down the glass. Body is a treanslucent, nearly opaque dark brown hue.
S- Yep. The nose is pretty much what you would expect when you read/hear about/see a chocolate beer. Nose is very rich of thick, dark chocolate. Bittersweet with the accent on the sweet, a hint of toffee as well.
T- Flavor is very similar to the taste. Flavor is very rich and chocolatey. Liquid bittersweet chocolate with the faintest hints of roasted malt and toffee deep in the background.
M- Low to medium carbonation and a rich, thick, smooth, creamy mouthfeel.
D- This is an excellent stout and pretty much fits the description. A chocolate stout with more chocoloate added to it. Its like the triple chocolate cake of beers. I really liked this beer but I see it as somewhat more of a novelty brew-but it really is one of the better single stouts I have had. This really reminds me of Southern Tier Choklat-its just as thick and rich-but the alcohol is not there. Its a shade sweeter as well.
Serving type: nitro-tap

On tap at Fat Head’s Brewer’s Brawl
A nice example of a sweet stout, this beer reminds me to check back on Penn at some point in the near future. A good balanced of lactose, chocolate, and malt results in a drinkable blend that is also workable as a session beer due to the lower gravity.
Aroma / Appearance - The watery presence tricks you into underestimating the contents of the glass. Underneath the creamy tan head is a blend of chocolate pie, crust, whipped cream, and an ephemeral sweetness that fades in the summer heat.
Flavor / Palate - Chocolate pudding, sweet vanilla sprinkles, and delicate malts pair with a dry transition that carries to a low key finish. Rather than being forgettable it leaves the mark of Diet Coke with a splash of alcohol. I would love to revisit this and try a full fresh bottle.

Bottle. Pours a flat black body under a small fizzy light brown head that faded quickly. The nose is super chocolaty and sweet with some rich roasty malt. The flavor is just as sweet and full of milk chocolate as you could hope for. If tastes like a candy bar in a glass. No bitterness or burnt notes at all, just tons of milk chocolate. Medium bodied and a bit clingy with soft fizzy carbonation. Nice beer for about 6 ounces, then I could pass on the rest.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Rated side by side with 3 other Penn brews. Pours black with nearly no head. Aroma if rich cocoa powder and chocolate sauce, some earthy coffee to this, and definite sweet lactose notes. Flavor is light chocolate sauce, a tiny bit of earthy roast, and a nice sweet lactose touch. Medium bodied, smooth, with low plus carbonation. Hey, this is a pretty darn good sweet stout.

Tree bark brown. Minimal lacing, in fact, I don?t see it any more and my beer is still cold. Sweet subtle aroma of chocolate, malt, sugar, wood and we earth. Taste is exactly the same. Very clean stout. How can you go wrong?

Draft at Glaziers pub at Hidden Valley. Aroma is nice huge chocolate notes. Very similar to Samuel smiths organic chocolate stout. Taste isn't quite as smooth though. Medium bodied. Light sweetness. Creamy and slick texture. Nice cocoa and some roasted malts. Good.
