Pours a deep amber brown color with a foamy, light tan head. The head does not maintain itself very well. The nose is slightly vegetal and roasty with notes of wood, dark caramel, a little raisin or prune, and a bit of tobacco. The flavor is very light and rather unfulfilling based on the nose. Slight watered down roasted notes, just a bit of malt sweetness, and a dull bitterness. It is light on the tongue and very dry as well. Thankfully the finish is relatively short and tasteless. What starts out with hope leads to a dead end on the tongue. Not recommended. KawaBomber (213), New Jersey, USA

Aroma is mostly malts w/ the slightest hint of caramel. Flavor is surprise...malty. Some roasty coffee & chocolate w/ a bit of caramel peeking through. Nothing amazing, but I was expecting it to suck after drinking a Penn Gold before it... dnstone (321), Mons, Belgium

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 2, 2009 Dark translucent brown with a medium thick tan head that sticks around rather than dissapeering. A bit of carbonation is active but hard to see in the dark color. A sweet caramel and honey aroma mixed with coffee like malt. There may be a smidgen of hop aroma but its obliterated by the malt and sugar. T he taste is malty and bitter chocolate tasting. It is not as sweet a flavor as the aroma leads on. A strong taste of hops makes a flavor balance to this beer. This is a great tasting package of a beer at an economical price. Recommended.
