3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Oscbert (746) - Sacramento, California, USA - JAN 3, 2012
~Fairly mild aroma of bread, milk chocolate and spicy hops.
~Pours a reddish dark brown/black color with small quickly disappearing off white head.
~Milk chocolate and toasty woody flavor, mild roastiness and sweet molasses. Flavors blend well together. Smooth.
~Light body, fairly high CO2, toasty and chocolate in finish, Slightly dry.
~An enjoyable dark lager. Kind of reminds me of beer at U Fleku in Czech Republic.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Scrapersnbeer (217) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - DEC 20, 2011
Pours out dark brown with minor league head and lacing. Seems pretty flat. Average toasted malt aroma and a hint of dirtiness. that could be any dark beer style. Taste is reflective of this, although the hallertau does shine through briefly mid-swig. Feels thin on the palate although it is pretty heavy bodied. Dunkels are such a strange compromise.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 MarkSachon (120) - Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 31, 2011
Suffers from a heaviness common to the "darks" and a sweetness that is contradictory to the undertones of tartness. You’ll probably want to stop at one and switch over to Penn Pilsner to finish off your evening.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 bosendorfer (23) - Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 29, 2011
This is a very solid German dark lager from my native city. I’ve sample this out of the bottles more times than I can count but never on tap. The beer possesses a thin, black color with a soapy head that recedes quickly to weak bubbles and some film. This beer gives off some pretty basic aromas of burned toast, coffee and gritty malt. The flavor is a smokey maltiness with some bitter, bready hops and a coffee undercurrent. It finishes bitter and somewhat drying. This is ok and certainly drinkable, but I never really seek this out on a regular basis.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Hawksfan17 (890) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 10, 2011
Rich heavy malt aroma on this attempt at a dunkel. The flavor was sweet and smooth but I thought it was too syrupy and didn’t have enough of a bready composure to it like dunkels I have had in Germany. Overall pretty good sipping beer though.

Pours dark brown from tap with a thin khaki head. A hint of caramel on the nose. Some slight roasted notes on the tongue. Finishes clean. Decent fir style.

12 oz bottle $2.25 purchased @ Julio’s Liquors in Westborough, MA. Used a lager glass. Mahogany wood color with thick head that shrank to a thin layer. Light lace. Light malty aroma, German malt for sure. The flavor is also on the light side. Roasted malt, caramel, and light burnt nuts. This isn’t going to… “WOW! You” or anything but, it’s a solid example of the style and has nice basic aspects of malt and nuttiness. Good flavor for a dark lager.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 nike (500) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 29, 2011
Dark brown with smallish white head. Malt aroma, taste is of roasted malts and caramel malts. Good brew, I haven’t bought a case in awhile, but after drinking it after about 2 years, I really enjoyed this beer…..again.
