Poured into a pilsner glass. 4.5 A: Clear pale yellow color. Two fingers of frothy white head. Good retention and a tall ring of lacing is left. 4.0 S: Huge aroma for the style. Plentiful grassy and earthy hop aromas. Neutral malt sweetness accompanied by graininess and a light biscuity component. 4.0 T: A hefty bitterness for the style, but well within the desirable range. Noble hop earthiness and grassiness. Biscuity malts with balancing sweetness. 4.0 M: Light, crisp body. Good moderate carbonation. Super smooth. Appropriate for style. 4.0 D: Good beer. I’m glad to see that not everything in the Penn lineup has taken a dive in quality. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 11-11-2011 04:20:25

Aroma is a sweet pale malt. Taste is bready malt and a weird apricot-like aftertaste. Overall a little different, but decent.

Draft at brewer, classic Pilsner! Clean, crisp, flavored brew. Smooth, light bodied bitter finish. Drinkable at 4%, great session brew!

Light but a bit off at first. Somewhat skunky, but it grows smoother as you drink. Not too bad overall, but not a standout pils.

First encounter was at an art opening for the Carnegie Museum of Pittsburgh and they were dispensing this fine brew for free to all of the attendees. Went well with the atmosphere that evening and I found my favorite of all the Penn Brewery selections. Crisp, without any chill or burn on the tongue and best enjoyed off the tap.

I moved back to Pittsburgh, and now I’m drinking beer made here in this town. It fills me with pride. Penn’s Kaiser Pils is a fine way to kick off this new adventure. Hoppy and hopeful.

Thanks to Tedwarhc for this bottle. Served in a COAST tall pint. Pours a moderate golden-yellow color with a two-finger white head that is quite fluffy. Good retention and lacing. The nose is a bit odd in that there’s some strong grain and a bit of tannin, but also smells a bit skunked, even though it’s in a brown bottle. The flavor is better, but doesn’t quite hit the level I’m looking for in a German Pilsener. Mostly grain in the front followed by a pronounced bitterness on the back-end. A bit too grainy and slightly skunkish. Light body and high carbonation with a good bitter finish. Drinks well enough, but doesn’t rival the best versions of the style. Serving type: bottle

Pours golden from bottle with a thin white head. Has a bit of an alcohol smell on the nose. The taste is crisp but the finish has a slight bitterness to it without much corresponding hop flavor. Not my favorite interpretation of the style.
