Woah, I can’t say I’ve ever had anything quite like this. Raisin, malt, Christmas spices. The taster is served with cinnamon sugar on the rim which really accents the whole deal. A stretch to call this setup beer - more like a cinnamon roll cocktail.

Bottle from trade side by side with other Penn stuff. Pours a reddish amber color with a creamy white head. Sweet cinnamon candy aroma, a bit of toffee and caramel. Flavor is a bit of cinnamon on top of what seems to be that cream cheese icing flavor that I didn’t expect. A bit of nuttiness in there as well. Medium bodied with slightly prickly carbonation. This is a neat beer and seems like it would be good for the holiday times. Just like it is described.

Draft. Hidden valley. Medium head. Brown color. Aroma is nutmeg, cinnimon, more nutmeg, and nutroll. Medium light sweetness. Medium light body. Easy to drink. Nice mix of spice.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours dark brown with virtually no head. Aroma almost of cola. Interesting. Taste is cola sweet with a slow building bitterness that doesn't offset the sweet but exists with it. Not refined, a bit too sweet. No entirely unpleasant.

Hazy red Brown color with lots of sticky lacing. Served with a cinnamon sugar RIM which is pronounced on the aroma, not sure if beer is brewed with cinnamon. Nice malty palate with smooth nutty feeling.

12 ounce bottle. Dark reddish brown color. Small beige head disappears immediately. Faint roasted malt aroma hints at cinnamon and allspice. Roasted malt flavor with notes of currants and toasted nuts. Flavors develop as brew warms up. Some fruity citrus hops in finish. Definately improves at about 55 degrees.

12 oz. Bottle. A tasty treat, but definitely a dessert. Sweet cream scent with nutiness underneath. Small head over a dark brown pour. Medium bodied, silky feel with a slight fizz on the finish. Hazelnut fronted flavor to sweet cream, milk chocolate, and a bit of nutiness on the finish.

This is a bold step from a brewery who prides itself on maintaining the German purity laws and has been conservative with their offerings in the past. Many reservations before the first sample, but overall this was a pleasant surprise. In emulation of nut roll flavorings, Penn has come very close without leaving any hints of artificial taste or aftertaste. All the proper spices and sugars are there along with a rich brown color and a creamy head. "A" for effort to Penn Brewery.
