A rich, deep golden-colored lager fest bier that is exceptionally smooth and mellow. Uses two-row malted barley and a combination of roasted malts. Highly rated by the National Tasting Institute.

On tap at Zeno’s Pub - State College, PA. Pours a lightly hazy pale amber orange, with minimal white head. Aroma gives a generic peach and malt fruitiness. Not much there. Wow. This is a really boring Oktoberfest. Slight munich malt caramels, a touch of grain depth, not much there. Generic bland malty beer, slightly thin, with few exceptional characteristics. No chewiness. A light soapy mineral wash in the backend. Worse than ’meh.’

Bottle Pours a light amber body with an off white head. Malty body with a light toffee notes and a light herbal hoppiness. Bread y, grain y and sweet. Didn’t care for this to much.

Draft at Table 22 (Murrysville). Pours a clear copper color, very faint off-white head. Aroma is dominated by malt and a touch of sweet caramel. Sweet malt, caramel and a touch of hops sum up the flavor. A medium to almost thin palate, finishes dry and just vaguely bitter.

UPDATED: SEP 14, 2009 Ok for color thogh no head, some elevated malt tastes, but an unattractive earthy metallic note as if it got mixed in with somr other beer of lesser quality.

I can’t figure out what I don’t like about the aroma here. My wife says it smells like fall. I think it smells like mediocore. Look is average, started off with a great head that turns into almost nothing. Taste is light enough but there is not much there. Reminds me of a lighter Boston Lager.

Bottle courtesy MrBunn. Dark orange pour with modest head. Smells like coffee, caramel and funk. Light fruit is the initial flavor, followed by some malt and not much else....pretty watered down.Still not my favorite style.

Amberish pour. Small whitish head. Aroma is malt with some caramel. Flavor is fairly bland and malty. Run of the mill. Skip it.

9/26/2007: Penn Oktoberfest pours pale brown with a dense, foamy, lasting head that leaves good lacing on the glass. The aroma has toast and a soft maltiness. The flavor has caramel, some banana, and a mildly spicy hop finish. It is medium-bodied and smooth on the palate with a good finish. Overall this is a good, flavorful Oktoberfest.

Sample(s) from 12 fl. oz. bottles shared at the September 2007 Jundale Beerklub Tasting. Thanks! Rating #122 for this beer.
