Copper-gold with fair, white head / Nose of grain and honey / Light, high carbonation, watery, with decent, bitter finish / Flavors of grain with hint of honey, and with enjoyable, bitter finish / A little weak and lacking in Vienna character.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 jasonp (1556) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - APR 27, 2008
On draft at PNC Park. Solid beer to have at a ballgame. Dark golden to light amber with a white head. Subdued but pleasant noble hop and grain nose. Flavor has notes of bread, grain, some caramel, grassy hops and a little hay. Some hop bitterness in there for balance. Medium, smooth body with moderate carbonation. Not exciting but a fine ballgame beer. Definitely not a pils, though - not sure why they call it Penn Pilsner.
2.2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 canary dog (516) - Rutland, Vermont, USA - APR 27, 2008
Another mediocre American style lager. Nothing memorable. It becomes pointless to write anything in depth about these types of beers, any specific descriptions. They all pretty much taste the same.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 obguthr (2383) - Poquoson, Virginia, USA - APR 26, 2008
Smells of corn husks and malt. Clear golden with a thick head and good lacing. Moderately sour and grainy. Very average.
2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Funknmilla (636) - Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 23, 2008
12 oz bottle....not much head-light beige...golden orange body with a touch of cloudiness...smells of fresh clean malts and yeast...body is watery and light, a sour malt presence, but easy to drink....a smidgen of bitter throughout...nothing special...although its well balanced
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 TheCaptain (613) - Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 20, 2008
Bottle and on tap. Amber gold with nice carbonation and small head with lacing. Slight sweet grain hop aroma which carries into the pallet. Light and an easy drinker. Very refreshing on tap. Bread and subtle grass notes. Make the trip to the brewery if you can, nice place and great beer with German influences.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 changeup45 (1314) - Mount Dora, Florida, USA - APR 12, 2008
Not bad but wouldn’t be my pick for a nice Pils to drink on a warm day. Golden colored, smallish head but some nice lacing is produced. The flavor is sweet fruits with some grassy notes. Mild hops but they are sweet and the whole flavor seems just a little too sweet. Decent mouthfeel but not as crisp as I’d like a Pils to be. It’s quite drinkable but no better than average.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 CharlesDarwin (2570) - Peace Dale, Rhode Island, USA - APR 9, 2008
On tap at Mad Mex - State College, PA. Light trash receptacle aroma. Off. Skunky. Pours a deeply hued copper, crystal clear, with a soapy white rim. Flavor is revolting, a fresh blast of hand soap, yeast products, and corn. Ugh, I can’t put my this beer to my lips. It seems so overbearing and cloying. The chemical profile upfront is revolting. This beer is gross. It’s dirty. The malt character is offensive and the fermentation hasn’t done this beer any good. Finishes on a distinct mineral profile.
