Our flagship brand! An amber Vienna-style lager beer that is smooth, mellow and full bodied, with delicate hop aroma. Uses two-row barley malt and caramel-roasted malt. Based on founder Tom Pastorius’ favorite German bier.

An outstanding beer. Kudos to the brewers on this one. Only negative is a slight aftertaste, but it is not significant. A very good beer.

Tap at Split Rock, ’04. Golden with a golden head and clear. Clean aroma with a touch of hops and malt. Nice malty hoppy balance. Some malt sweetness, hop flavor, and lingering bitterness and hops. Decent pils.

Pours a cloudy amber with a decent off white head that does not really stick around too long. Nose is a bit woody with a slight perfume to it. Flavor is much more robust than I was expecting. Thick tree character with a stringent sweet edge that has an overall thick caramel tone to it. Feel is smooth on the liquid with a fairly low carbonation. Very drinkable. A very well made brew with a lot of body and character to it. Definitely worth a try.

One of the first popular micos in the Pittsburgh area. Classic Vienna style pilsner….excellent. Maybe my rating is higher because of loyalty to this brewery. Aroma of caramel, sweet malts, and hops. The flavor is sweet malts medium body and a bitter slightly hoppy finish.

Has a grassy, hay, noble aroma along with a faint whiff of malt and a hint of, oddly, powdered sugar. The body is a bright golden color and holds a diminishing white head that is roughly a thumb thuck at the pour’s finish. The first sip is lightly sweet, malt accented with some very faint caramel hints and a grassy flavor through the middle. Pretty damn nice in a "I’m in the mood for a lager" kind of way. A gold colored and less hopped version of Sam Adams if I had to compare it to something. I think I’m gonna buy a sixer of this for my Sister and Brother-in-law who refuse to come off the lagers.

Appearance: pours as clear dark golden brew. Medium long lived mid dense top.
Nose: Clean , fresh properly constructed pils aroma. Meadow like hop profile often found in Bavarian and Bohemian lagers. Very neat refreshing softness.
Flavor/Palate : Medium light bodied. Golden malt bottom. Not to heavy with delicate yet pronounced hops. Very drinkable amber pils from Penn Brewery. Pleasant surprise.
As of Feb 2009 this beer is higly underrated.

G: Pilsner Urquell pilsener glass. A: Dark gold with plenty of carbonation and a rather large head. Quite transparent. S: Pale malts with a field-ish smell. Slightly sweet. T: Slightly sweet with some grainy flavors. Slight hint of bubble gum. Slight hop presence. Slightly hefeweizen-esque. M: Very light mouthfeel with minimal carbonation and no alcohol presence. Very smooth. D: Exceedingly drinkable. Definitely looking forward to these over the summer. Fiancee thinks its "okay."
