COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Andy and Nick have also been busy creating some special new beers for Penn’s “Brewmaster’s Choice” series for fall. Andy’s harvest rye IPA is slated to debut on October 2. “Our rye IPA will be brewed with a blend of rye and two-row barley Pilsen malts,” says Andy. “This red ale will feature a malty balance with a pronounced hop bitterness and aroma,” he adds. The limited-edition seasonal ale will be available on draft at Penn Brewery and other select bars and restaurants around town.

Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable brew.

Bottle courtesy at Andy’s New Years Eve party/tasting/Fluxx tournament. Pours a clear orange tinged dark amber with a medium sized wheat to beige head. Soft hops and earthy rye, light citrus. Medium bodied, earthy rye and grain. Light bitterness on the finish, good malty backbone. Easy drinking.

Bomber from barley and hops. Pours a dark copper color with a large white head. A sweet caramel nose. A odd sweet flavor of candy, caramel, rye. Earthy. Ok. Butter maybe.

Reddish-brown color with a white head. The aroma is full of rye. The flavor is a bit different. I get a good dose of spicy rye, but that is accompanied by some toffee and caramel malt, pine and grass. Low bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle shared by Tmoney99 (notes). Pours a deep amber/copper color with a small off white head. The aroma had caramel, spicy rye, light herbal and citrus notes. The flavor has some up front bitterness, hints of grapefruit citrus, spicy rye, toasted malts with a moderate bitterness to the finish.

This poured a medium amber color with a white head. Aroma was herbal and spicey hops, light rye and some caramel malt. Flavor was light spicey and herbal, not very juicy or fruity, and some cracker notes. Somewhat boring, but nothing bad.

On tap at the bocktown monaca. Very nice lacing. Rather mild yet bitter flavor, much less annoying than other rye beers. You know, they taste so much like an IPA. Not over the top. Rather flat. Big neggy finish. Not real impresses but at least something new from these guys.

On tap at Mad Mex, McKnight Rd. Medium hop aroma, herbal, and lightly spicy. Sweet roasted character, light grainy notes but can’t detect a lot of rye in the nose. Deep brown-amber clear with thin creamy lacing off-white head. Medium body and carbonation. Starts with medium roasty sweet flavor with brown sugar, fresh hops, and light rye spiciness. Light bitter character that becomes more pronounced towards the finish. Gets drier, too. Spicy hop notes and dry bitter after.
