Dacrza (136), Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA Apr 12, 2008 Jet black body with milky soft brown, swiftly settling head--intimidating in its snifter! Malt is considerable, but not obtrusive... smooth early, with a bit of effervescence and a warm finish--not feeling like 8.0%... a bit of peat; rich, full-bodied malt, a little smoke and a pleasant finish... I’ve had bocks with a third of the alcohol that strained the tastebuds more--smooth! As winnings from a fantasy football wager, this beer (courtesy of Ryan, again!) 2007 batch #001 is a winner also, the second pour producing a smoother, creamier drink--a fitting February/March pleasure.
BeerFanDan17 (331), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA Jul 21, 2008 Very interesting--Batch #1. Pours dark red with a nice frothy head. Malty and strong barley aroma and taste. Hints of honey and molasses and maybe prune or plum. ehhdayton (1079), USA Jul 15, 2008 Pours brown with reddish hues and a tan head. Aroma is malty with biscuit and roasted notes. Has a nice malty flavor with low levels of hops. grandridge (116), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA Jul 10, 2008 Very fruity nose with floral notes. Pours deep amber with a slight cloudiness. The front is fruity, finish is roasted and slightly bittersweet. The flavor has very nice depth with some complexity.
merlin48 (328), Henderson, Kentucky, USA Jun 22, 2008 Batch 001 pours a brown mahogany body with a small beige head that leaves some spotty lacing. Aroma of malty toffee, herbal hops, and hints of cocoa and pears. Medium body and carbonation. Taste is rich maltiness, with an emphasis on toffee. Herbal hops impart a sturdy bitterness Vague fruity hints are less assertive than in the aroma. A pretty good American bock but I was hoping for better. nuplastikk (381), Maryland, USA Jun 17, 2008 25oz uncorked green bottle, batch #1. Attractively thick brown-amber color. The aroma is deep and malty in the bock style. Deep, rich flavor with a very moderate carbonation level. Sweet tastes of chocolate and pungent fruit. This is an excellent beer, worth seeking out if you are into big German beers.
