Commercial Description:
Authentic wheat beer, brewed in the Southern German tradition, won the Silver Medal in 1997 and the Gold Medal at the 2000 in GABF.. Penn Weizen is top-fermented, cask-conditioned, and very effervescent with a slight hint of tangy clove flavor.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy pale yellow with lively carbonation and a fizzy white head that died pretty quickly but left some decnt lacing. Typical wheat and banana aroma for a German Weizen. The flavor was common for the style also, wheat and a little spice, BUT something just seemed off with the flavor. This to me is a common example of an American brewery version of a German Weizen, average at best. Too soft!

Bottle from Belmont Party. Pours a hazy orange hue with a moderate frothy white head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Good wheat and banana aroma. Medium body with soft carbonation. Medium well balanced spicy flavor with a good sweet finish of moderate duration. Good soft drinkable beer.

Clear yellow beer that I clouded up with some of the yeast in the bottle. Lasting fizzy white head. Lots of yeast, banana and spice in the nose. This has all the traditional yeastiness of the good German Hefes, with the banana/clove flavor, lemon citrus and cracker notes. Yeast is a little heavy on the palate, but otherwise a nice US version of this traditional style.

Bottle. Cloudy, even milky yellow/orange color with some floaties and a moussy white head. All sorts of grassiness in the aroma--Wheat, hay, straw, with grassy hops--along with some banana yeast. Creamy yeasty and wheaty flavor with some lemon and spice. Among the "moderately priced six packs of American Hefeweizens" I’ve tried, I’d say this is probably the best.

Poured cloudy and dark orange. Nice bitter flavor, but not too bitter. Hint of citrus.

12 ounce bottle in weizen glass. Very cloudy dark orange with thick dense head. Aroma of lemon, clove, banana. Very Bavarian flavor of banana and wheat grassy tang with slightly tart finish. Blindfolded, I would have thought this came from Germany. Slight throaty bitterness in the aftertaste is the only thing that detracts from this otherwise excellent hefe.

hazy gold, pours with a big frothy white head, light bitter clove aroma, flavor contains a touch of banana sweetness, light bitterness, mostly flavorless, too filtered?

Poured a hazy golden amber color with a thin white head. There was wild yeast leather notes in the aroma with a mild tartness. Wheaty aroma as well. The flavor was tart and leathery, as well as wheaty. Medium bodied. Not bad for and infected beer.
