COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Authentic wheat beer, brewed in the Southern German tradition, won the Silver Medal in 1997 and the Gold Medal at the 2000 in GABF.. Penn Weizen is top-fermented, cask-conditioned, and very effervescent with a slight hint of tangy clove flavor.

Bottle. My return to PA is unspectacular to date, and this golden pour with some haze and a little bit of a head leaves me little hope. Aromas are fairly sweet... honey, bread dough, lemon and maybe some yeast and cloves. Flavor is better than expected. I found a bit of a banana/clove presence that serves as a background to a bit of citrus and some coriander. This is pulled off fairly well, and I like this beer, but won’t be buying any cases anytime soon... still, I would buy this again.

Draft at Wildside BBQ. Pours a cloudy, glowing orange-amber body with a large, foamy, snow-white head. The head shows excellent retention and leaves nice, random snakes of lacing behind on the glass. Aromas include banana, orange, bready yeast, and coriander. The flavor follows suit exactly, though the citrus sweetness is kicked up a few notches. The body is on the lighter side of medium, with a somewhat sticky, syrupy consistency. Goes down smooth, but sits a little heavy due to the sweetness. Pretty straightforward, decent-at-best brew. Nothing special here.

Bottle: Poured as a weizen should -- hazy yellow-orange wtih a tower of tight white foam. The aroma is pretty tight for the style, too ... banana and yeast all the way. So going in I expected a straight-up German-style Weizen ... but this drinks more in the American wheat vein ... light and somewhat citrus-fruity. There’s just a hint of the continental variety, so don’t come looking for a Weihenstephaner, but do expect an enjoyable quaff. (#3259, 12/21/2007)

Served in a tall glass at the brewery in Pittsburgh. A straw yellow-orange appearance with a bubbly white head. The aroma was strong and a wheaty/yeasty mix with some sweetness to it. The taste was mostly sweet, with some bitter wheatyness for balance. A wet, full-bodied beer with ample carbonation and a good feel; a quality beer.

this beer was pretty good. Nice aroma and it looked good to. I wish these guys brought more of the offerings to the table. Maybe next time.

Tap at the Brazen Head: Hazy golden with a white fading head. Aroma has banana, mild spices and bready notes. Flavor has decent character. Banana-ish, sweet undertones, along with mild clove spiciness. The body overall has a nice wheat malt presence, giving it a slightly mineralish hint. A decent Hefeweizen.
