COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Authentic wheat beer, brewed in the Southern German tradition, won the Silver Medal in 1997 and the Gold Medal at the 2000 in GABF.. Penn Weizen is top-fermented, cask-conditioned, and very effervescent with a slight hint of tangy clove flavor.

The aroma seems more cereal grain accented than wheat. Yeast notes, but no banana. A hint of nilla wafers maybe and toasted vanilla, but it’s solidly different than most German brewed Hefe’s I can recall. The body is golden/yellow with a diminishing white head.Mild banana, yeast notes in the fore, but it tastes a bit like rubber too and is a bit lacking in flavor concentration. Hints at honey and vanilla int he far finish. Just seems off to me. Not what I was expecting.

Pour is a hazy yellowish golden with a small white head. Aroma has notes of orange and wheat. Flavor is light and spritzy with clove and wheat. Finish is crisp and clean.

One of the best hefes I’ve had and I’m not just saying that because I pass this brewery every day. Aroma of yeast and wheat. Pour was a solid gold with a 2 finger white head that laced the whole glass. Taste was banana, wheat and yeast. Nice and dry with a crisp finish. This is not a Saturday night beer...this is a Sunday afternoon beer.

Slightly hazy with a medium sized, fluffy, white head. The aroma is banana, clove, light honey and light citrus. The flavor is slightly sweet, moderately spiced and fruity. Medium body is soft and smooth with a touch of tartness on the finish. This is one of the better American made, German Hefes I’ve had the pleasure to taste. Well done.

On draft. Pours a cloudy orange with a light white head. Smells of wheat, citrus, and a little spice. Nothing too dramatic. Tastes of some fruits, definitely a little banana, a little clove and spices. Wheat characters are somewhat mild. A little watery and thin-bodied. Not bad though.

Thanks to kramer17801 for this bottle. Chalky orange pour with big head. Very fruity nose of bananas and yeast. Banana is really strong, but also found hints of clove. Nice carbination along with a finish that leave a bit of yeast on the lips.

12 oz bottle, purchased at the brewery. Pours a hazy orangish gold body under a nice fine bubbled 2 finger white head that had some nice retention. Aroma is of lots of wheat malt, yeast, fruity banana esters and a little clove. Flavor is a little light, but it is quite crisp and refreshing. A little lacking in the estery notes, with just a very light hint of clove on the finish with a little yeast. Mouthfeel is fairly thin and watery in texture with a good amount of fizzy lively carbonation that added to the crispness of the finish. This was OK, but I don’t think that the bottle does anything good for this beer. I’ve had it on tap several times before and it was always alot more flavorful and had a bit more body to it. I’ll have to catch this on draught again to compare notes.

This is my kind of Weizen. I prefer the dry, crisp, refreshing, and fruity type. The bottle had a copious amount of yeast on the bottom. Banana is the dominate flavor on the palate. Very nice.
