MrBunn (801), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 17, 2008 Bottle. A dark brown body holds up a great big tan head that isn’t leaving any time soon. Sweet and clove-filled aromas. Flavor is decent, but pales in comparison to the Aventinus that I had a couple of nights back. It has a pretty dominant burnt flavoring... almost borders on coffee in the aftertaste. Also has a bit of an alcoholic bite to it and there’s not quite enough malt sweetness to balance it out. It comes off as a little astringent, but not terribly so. Bananas and cloves are there, too, and they begin to get more and more full as it warms. Pretty darn nice.
darkguardian (139), Florida, USA Jul 17, 2008 22oz bottle from Coffee District. Awesome smelling nose, tons of clove, wheat and bannana. Nice coffee colored pour with a tick beige head. Taste it falls down quite a bit. There is to much bitterness and its a bit metallic, a weizen should be much breadier and smoother than this, the banana doesn’t come through at all except just a wisp in the finish, no clove taste. Disappointing after a good set up. dpjuart (520), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 11, 2008 Draft at Coney. Pours brown with amber hues and a creamy, light khaki head. Banana and caramel nose with slight apple sweetness and clove spice. Taste is spicy, banana with wheaty yumminess. Nice sweet after. Tasty. Aurelius (2443), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jun 28, 2008 Sweet, malt liquory aroma. Breaty, biscuity, low bittering. What bittering ther is comes through with some tangy metallicism as the very finish. Servicable, not great. puzzl (1651), New York, New York, USA Jun 16, 2008 Tap at Blind Tiger. Nice head. Wheaty, peanut, wintergreen in the aroma. Nice, full, lightly sweet, fruity flavor. A bit buttery, a bit odd. Beerlando (1157), Orlando, Florida, USA May 20, 2008 750ml at GOBF ’08. Pours a hazy, dark caramel brown color with a lasting, foamy, khaki colored head. Minimal, clumping lace noted. Aromas include sweet caramel, overly ripe banana, figs, raisons, and cloves. Flavors were largely the same. Sweet, and heavy on banana and fig. Wheat adds a touch of dryness. Very little in the way of hops come through. The body is medium-full and lightly syrupy, though not overly cloying. Overall, its a pretty nice brew, but nothing special.
