Schwarzbier (shvahrts-beer) is German for "black-beer". Brewed to be a light bodied dark beer with a clean, crisp, refreshing finish. Its well balanced malt character is complimented with a touch of roastiness. Brewed using imported black patent malt and noble hops. Pairs with chunky dark breads, marinated meats such as brisket or German Sauerbraten. Not recommended for cellaring. Serve in a flute or pilsner glass at 45-50deg

black, tinged red. caramel in the nose, some roast. body is pretty thin. caramel malts up front, and another just-barely noticable presence of roast in the finish. not bad. not great.

Bottle, 650 ml. Pours deep dark amber brown with a small, tan colored head. I agree with the previous reviewer -- smells of cured meat. Id add to this an aroma of wet grass. Fairly full, creamy body. Quickly diminishes though. Notes of smoke up front, with a cream/milk middle, and a finish rounded out with hops. Good beer and one of the best local Schwarzbiers Ive tried.

Bomber. Pours nearly opaque, and leaves some lacing behind in the glass. It’s a bit thin in the body, and maybe a little watery. Lager carbonation level affects the taste. Very faint chocolate malt notes. More treble than bass. Not as good as it looks.

bottle courtesy of jcwattsrugger. Black (or schwarz, if you will), with a ring of foam. Faint aroma, a mix of coffee and tar ( in a good way) with notes of I dunno, more coffee. Flavor is mellow coffee and maybe a touch of chocolate. Very clean and crisp.

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2008 Bottle... Post RBSG ’08 O-Town/Vero Beach Throwdown Chapter 8... Clear, very dark lager with little to no head. Chocolaty nose. Light to medium-bodied with a thin mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Well-balanced and a touch chocolaty, but watery and bland. Finishes weak and fairly nondescript. Thanks to mcbackus for providing the bottle!

Bottle sample. Aroma was barely noticable. Flavor was a little smoky and had a little noticable alcohol. An ok beer, not much more.

Thanks to Josh for sharing this one. Pours a deep brown with amber notes and a small creamy off white head. Aroma of iced tea, malty graininess, toasted malt, earthy, light smoke and molasses. Flavor of light smoke, grainy malts, pretzels and toasted malt.

Pours a dark brown with beige head. Aroma of roast, chocolate, malts. Similar taste, some hops in the finish.. Nothing exciting here.
