Commercial Description:
Our fourth in the Firehouse Ales Series, Pompier means "fireman" in French and represents our continued commitment to celebrate and honor the men and women who respond to the call day after day. Pompier is rich and smooth with complexities that come from a huge grain bill comprised of premium imported specialty malts, French Strissel Spalt aroma hops and a 3 month aging process in oak hogsheads where it is combined with toasted French oak wood chips and champagne yeast. Pompier is intended to be a vintage quality English-Style Barleywine with a French twist. Appreciate its fine character and 12.1%ABV when we release this single 10 barrel batch sometime in December or you may choose to cellar it for many years to come.

You will find Pompier on retail shelves packaged in the same 1 Liter Swing-Top bottle that has become a signature for our specialty beers.

Pours a cloudy brown color with a thin light brown head. Aroma of caramel, hops and wood. Flavor of caramel, hops and wood. The body is light to medium with a liquorous texture and gentle carbonation. It feels a bit bland for such a high ABV barley wine.

1 Liter Bottle Purchased overpriced at Spiritus Fermenti in Providence RI. Pours a dark amberish red with a 2 finger tan head. Nose was sweet and slightly oaky. Taste was sweet one dimensional and front ended.

Pours a frothy, viscous amber-brown color with a short-lived creamy head. Delicious creamy vanilla ice cream aroma with some sweet biscuity toastiness...rum, citrus, mango, a bit of a roasty nuttiness. Super sweet, malt-dominant flavors... caramel, butterscotch, citrus, a bit of bitterness, some woodiness and hints of vanilla. Mouthfeel is soft and sugary, very viscous and heavy. Finishes somewhat astringently, clean, and a bit bitter. I never even thought about how much alcohol was in this thing, it was very well concealed ...or just part of the overall sweet warming quality of this brew. Intense, full of interesting flavors, a great beer to have after dinner.

Courtesy mcbackus. Pours a hazy auburn color with a small, foamy, off-white head. Minimal amounts of spotty lacing mark the glass. Aromas include a rich caramel malt base, with candy sugar, floral and citrus hops, along with some indiscernible dark fruits and dry, toasted oak notes. Flavors are similar, with caramel and toffee sweetness being balanced by surprisingly potent citrus and floral hops. The oaky vanilla brings everything together quite nicely. Medium-full bodied and lightly syrupy, it goes down easy for such a massive beer. This is a very good offering that will likely only improve with age.

Bottle @ ORL throwdown, courtesy of mcbackus. Pours garnet with no head. On the nose candi sugar like cherry hints and floral hops hit first, followed rich malts and sugared fruits. Bitter hops, very sweet maltiness, and muted cherries in the flavor. Carb balanced out the mouthfeel, keeping this from being cloying.
