COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our fourth in the Firehouse Ales Series, Pompier means "fireman" in French and represents our continued commitment to celebrate and honor the men and women who respond to the call day after day. Pompier is rich and smooth with complexities that come from a huge grain bill comprised of premium imported specialty malts, French Strissel Spalt aroma hops and a 3 month aging process in oak hogsheads where it is combined with toasted French oak wood chips and champagne yeast. Pompier is intended to be a vintage quality English-Style Barleywine with a French twist. Appreciate its fine character and 12.1%ABV when we release this single 10 barrel batch sometime in December or you may choose to cellar it for many years to come.

You will find Pompier on retail shelves packaged in the same 1 Liter Swing-Top bottle that has become a signature for our specialty beers.

Definitely faded over the years clout is carbonated but low on suds. Taste is overwhelming vanilla bourbon tied to lusciously worked malts. Nicely cellared and can’t thank brewtopia enough for this gem....

Dark brown thin tan head. Super fruity nose. Very sherry and sweet apple. Very winey and almost a tray finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cloudy red- brown beer, small tan head. Odd sweet farmyard nose. Light semi dry palate, slightly soft. Sweet milk dominates with bourbon and wood subservient. A whisper of banana. Dry finish with more of the same. Slightly odd but quite drinkable.

(1L bottle) Pours a cloudy orange body with a moderate off-white head. Aroma of cherry, mustiness, nuts, brown sugar, and light cardboard. Flavor of cherry, bread, citrus, caramel, and some oxidation.

1 litre swing top bottle from 2008. Knew about the souring issues going in but have hung onto a couple of bottles just to see what happens. Lots of whey, lactose, and sourness/funk with some citrus on the aroma. High carbonation, tartness, medium body, decent tart and dry finish. Actually not that bad considering its off - nothing like a barleywine though.

Bottle shared at sourfest. Pours with a hazed brown body with a small off-white head. Aromas of raisins, dark fruits, coconut, oak and oxidation. Flavors are a touch tart, currants, dark fruits, raisins, oxidation. Light bubbles.

1 liter swingtop bottle shared by a local BA, 2008 vintage. Pours a deep, hazy plum body with a three-finger reddish beige head. The aroma has a sweet/sour thing going on that contains ripe fruit (cherries, apples), caramel, and tart funk that hints at infection. The flavor has a heavy lactic sourness that interferes with tart fruit, caramel and barrel notes. Medium body. Disappointing that this has not held up well.

11/11/11/11/8/11

Much more a farmhouse ale than a barleywine. Enjoyable nonetheless. The flavor was mostly sour, sour fruit with little sweetness and mild citrus rind bitterness. The carbonation was appropriately flat. Nose was not bold enough. Definitely worth drinking if you like farmhouse ales.

Review from notes, sampled 1/13/2008 Pours a clear dark copper that shows ruby highlights when held up to the light. Two finger off white head dissipates quickly lacing the glass on the way down. Aroma is of oak and spicey, perfumey hops. Has a medicinal or solvent smell and taste. I couldn’t finish the glass I poured. I hope that I got a bad bottle because their stuff is usually pretty good!
