blklab2007 (568), Connecticut, USA Jul 8, 2007 Updated: Sep 6, 2008 7/8/07 - 2006 swing top bottle, pours a dark black in color with a fantastic thin creamy head that stayed through the tasting, lots of tiny bubbles. smell is of coffee, chocolate, malts, a little bitterness and the alcohol. smell really came through as it warmed. taste is very smooth, a lot going on in there but it all blends nicely. some Smokey wood taste left on the tongue compliments the coffee nicely. this one is real nice and could be deadly if the whole bottle is enjoyed.
8/9/08 - don’t see a vintage date , poured into a snifter, black in color, light brown head that faded to a ring. aroma chocolate malt, caramel, lightly roasted coffee, and light barrel wood. lactic creamy mouth feel and fairly hefty carbonation. flavor starts hefty chocolate malt, roasted coffee, light bitterness, and some toasted wood. finish is drying with bitter coffee. again very nice.
PilsnerPeter (1477), Flushing, New York, USA Oct 6, 2008 Bottle 2006: Pours near opaque, with only bit of light coming through at the meniscus, and has a creamy/dense khaki head. Huge mocha aroma. Has some chocolate ice cream, hickory smoke, a touch of tobacco and apple wood. A drop thinner than expected, but it’s leanness makes it very drinkable. Has a meaty flavor. Some hickory notes upfront, followed by dark chocolate, mocha-chip, roasted coffee beans, mild smoky notes (wood), and a bit of resiny bitterness (both hop and coffee) into the long roasted finish. A rich Imperial filled with mocha & hickory notes, yet remains drinkable. Nice. Sammy (3135), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 14, 2008 1 litre bottle, obtained in trade. Expresso coffee is intrinsic, and its in the aroma. Very nice lacing on the black body with mocha covering. Dry for an RIS and also medium rather than fuller mouthfeel for the style. Vanilla is there, and it helps to make up for a lack of carbonation. Dry biter chocolate.

A very good imp stout VTHopHead (700), Barre, Vermont, USA Aug 3, 2008 Sample at the 2008 VT Brewers Fest - Poured a very dark black/brown in color with a small tan head. Some lacing. Aroma is very strong of darkly roasted malts, coffee and dark fruits with a hint of chocolate. Flavor followed the aroma profile pretty closely. Flavor is roasty with plenty of dark malts and lots of coffee. Slightly sweet with flavors of dark fruits lasting through to the finish. I really liked this one... Retorp (2155), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 18, 2008 Courtesy of Dragonstout. Thanks a lot, Brian! Huge dark fruit aroma followed by dark chocolate, fudge, cocoa and treacle. Very nice aroma. The body is deep black and holds a receding thumb sized mocha head. The first sip offers gobs of treacle, some light smoke, a dose of sweet chocolate, cocoa, cream and assorted dark fruits. A little thin, but VERY tasty. I like.
