Cask hand pump, half pint at Mark Addy, Salford. Back body with deep, ruby highlights. Fragile head-lacing. Smell of dark, semi-sweet malts with a touch of liquorice. Similar taste profile perhaps with emphasis on the liquorice part leading to a malt bitter ending. Fine bodied. Nice (Greater Manchester, 22.01.2013).

Cask handpull, The Rutland Arms, Sheffield, 01/01/13. Except a takeout tin of Punk at midnight, my first beer of 2013. Pitch with a good firm neck of cream. Honey roasted nut, coal smoke nose. Buttered coal flavour; watery blue cheese dabs, celery. Quite watery. Sure there’s way better beers in Sheffield tonight but I didn’t find them. Or the fireworks.
