Under the glow of a bright harvest moon, Tristan DeLuna discovered Pensacola. It’s too bad we weren’t around or he could have celebrated his discovery with the cool flavor of the Extra Pale Ale that bears his name. Life must have been hard for those early settlers... If you walk along the Gulf’s edge during a full moon with a pint of the Extra Pale Ale, you might hear the voices from a few centuries ago, wishing for a sip. Don’t worry, we won’t tell if you keep it all for yourself. Can you imagine living through a Florida summer without a refreshing pint from time to time? We can’t either. Whether you’re trying to warm yourself up or cool yourself down, sail under the moonlight with our DeLuna Extra Pale Ale.

on tap @ Pensacola Bay / FL ---- Aroma of malt and European Kolsch hops. Too bad the beer itself doesn’t back the aroma. Fizzy head that disappears like a soft drink, pale amber color, a few lace dots. Taste is thin watery malt that adds a big shot of fizz before moving onto a finish that is missing any hops. Too light, too simple, not any Kolsch attributes, not going to work.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear gold with small off white head that lasts. The aroma is wheat, honey, grass. Thin mouth, sweet honey malt, light citrus, crushable, good.

Sample from tap at brewpub. Clear amber with white head. Smell is light grain and hay grass hop. Taste is light grain malty with fruit and grass hops. Decent köksch. Semi dry with low bitterness and low carbonation.

Pours a dull, watery golden with yeast matter floating. Tart, mildly earthy nose, with notes of green banana and green grape. A little grassy. Mouthfeel is crisp and light. Taste approximates the nose.

I really enjoy this beer fresh, right off the bright tank (I’ve been lucky enough to catch Mark and Rogers at the brewery twice now to do this!). Obviously a Kolsch and not a pale ale, and as such I love it.

Draft - Lemony citrus and grains. Pale gold with a thin white head. Skunky up front bitterness and a bit of grain. Clean and slightly sweet finish. Nice as a Kolsch, but not a great pale ale.

On tap in Destin. It was happy hour, so I’m glad I only paid $3.00 for this one. Weak, flavorless, missing the funk of a real Kölsch and the bite of an American pale ale.
