3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pushes the limits on the IPA style guidelines. Probably too dark. But this is a tasty brew and one I get a lot around town.
Pours a nice copper with a white head. Good lacing.
Aroma isn’t huge, but noticeable. Has the distinct Lafayette, IN water character in the background.
Flavor is pretty well balanced with a distinct and clean bitterness mixed with malt flavor. The Lafayette water is again noticeable (we have lots of sulfur, hardness, and alkalinity).
Overall this is a very good brew with a noticeable local flavor that we get from the water here.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle pours a rich copper color with a creamy frothy head, aromas of pine, grapefruit juice, and a touch of malt. Flavors are the same as aromas, little sweetness at end to cut the bitteerness.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Deep copper-amber pour with a toffee colored head. Nose is rich caramel, some pine, herbs and flowers, with a little grapefruit. Taste is a lot of bitter with a fair amount of sweet that grows with warmth. Palate is medium bodied, kind of oily with a lengthy finish. Really nice IPA, one to savor rather than plow through. Nice.

bottle - Pours lightly hazy copper with a small, off-white head. There’s a big grapefruit hop aroma as well as a big hop flavor with similar grapefruit. and a tasty malt balance. Very good IPA.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Full disclosure - I really like People’s and I live in Lafayette. I’ve enjoyed many a tasty pint at their taproom and if you’re around that area I really suggest you stop in and try a pint or two.
This beer is one of their flagships and one of three that they bottle (the other two being the Pilsner and most recently Mr Brown.) A fairly aggressive pour yields a decent head. Color is a light copper. Head dissipates fairly quickly (more on that later..)
Aroma is of citrusy, floral hops and caramelly bready malt. Smells pretty darn balanced - definitely not hopwater.
Taste starts off with some pretty sharp hop flavors, followed immediately by a nice hit of caramel malt. The finish is unfortunately a rather jarring mineral tang thanks to the lovely tap water we have here.
Mouthfeel is a bit disappointing, chiefly due to the under carbonation. As previously mentioned, I love People’s, but I find most of their beers to be on the flat side, especially in bottles. This would be in the 4.5 range if the carbonation was right.
Overall, a tasty brew, with a lot of room for improvement. That said - I will keep on coming back to People’s for this and their other tasty brews.
