American Style India Pale Ale. We used an American base malt with the addition of Caramalt to give this now classic style a redish hue. Mound Builder includes an aggressive use of Columbus hops, which is a high alpha hop with a full flavor profile, and Centennial hops. The beer is also dry-hopped with Amarillo hops, which is a citrusy hop with notes of orange and grapefruit. People’s Mound Builder IPA is a hoppy, yet smooth American twist on the English IPA

Draft. Poured clear copper color with an average frothy off-white head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy sour citrus hop aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Moderate bitter flavor with a moderate bittersweet finish of medium duration. Good brew.

A bit darker in color than I expected with a mostly white head. Very hoppy up front, guava, mango, citrus peel, grassy notes on the finish.

On draught at Heorot in Muncie, IN. The beer is a hazy dark amber color with a medium foamy beige head that diminishes steadily. Sticky rings of lacing on the glass. Hoppy aroma that has piney and malty notes. Medium body with a somewhat astringent hops character that has resiny and piney qualities. Some sweet malt in the background. The finish is hoppy with a lingering bitterness left behind. Decent IPA overall.

Bottle. Orange, caramel malt and pine aroma. Amber color with small head. Lightly sweet caramel malt and moderately bitter grapefruit peel flavor. Nice hops.

8/11/12. GTMW. Amber pour with a small khaki head. Bitter, hoppy aroma with plenty of citrus and a touch of cat pee in there. Rich hoppy flavor with lots of citrus and pine on top of a definite caramel malt aspect. Not bad.

15th Annual Indiana Microbrewers Summer Fest 2010: Pours a deep amber and golden hue with a good head. The aroma has notes of bready and crystal malts, some hint of rye, Amarillo hops with a bit of fruity tones, and a hint of mint. The taste is bitter and twangy that quickly is well balanced by the grainy malts. Again, I get some rye like character and even some mint like notes about the finish. The mouth feel is a bit lively and refreshing. A tad different from most of the IPA’s at the fest but still very drinkable and even must I say a tad complex.

This draft brew from a beer festival poured a small sized head of foamy white colored bubbles that were quickly diminishing and left behind a uncarbonated transparent orange colored body and a poor lacing. The aroma was hoppy. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a lingering hoppy aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of hops. A decent one that I would consider buying again.

12 oz. bottle from jmborggren. Pours a clear amber with a small off white head. The aroma is sweet and sticky citrus, dank hops and lightly toasted malts. The flavor is toasted caramel malt, citrus, earthy hops with a dry grassy finish. Decent bitterness toward the finish. This has good balance and would make a decent session beer.

UPDATED: DEC 26, 2012 Bottle to pint (thanks jmborggren). Looks decent; dark for an IPA though. A deep, hazy burnt-orange with thin white lacing. Smells a little hoppy and a lot (caramel) malty. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel and a dry finish for an IPA. Not bad. Note: I tried this on draft at the brewery in December and found it much tastier, but I’m sticking with my original review for scoring purposes.

On tap at End of the Line, Indy. Another pretty nice local IPA, this one with a very potent, dry nose atop a handsome cloudy orange body. Flavor had a bunch more fruit, with a serious orange peel and bubble gum quality that I enjoyed very much. Not as good as Alpine but a similar corner of the flavor world.
