3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
22 oz. directly from the brew pub. Deep ruby color with no head or lacing. Nose is smoky peat with dark fruit and light chocolate. Lots of smokiness in the flavor with a light smoked meat flavor. Sweet malt comes up toward the finish. The smoke and sweetness complaints each other well. Medium in body. It’s ok.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
22 oz. bottle shared by shareanevada (notes from 2010). Pours a clear copper brown color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor had sweet malts, some smoky, mild peat notes, light dark fruits with some earthy bitterness. The flavor was a bit watered down tasting.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the brewery. Pours deep brown with a lacy head. Aroma of roasted, chocolate, and lightly smoked malts plus some floral hops. Flavor the same with a nice amount of malts/hops. Average texture. A pretty good Scotch ale.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
On tap at the brewpub. I’m not sure how this Scotch Ale accumulated so much bitterness, but I found it off-putting. The smokiness was unnoticeable. Malt structure, otherwise, was quite good, but I couldn’t get past a terse, harsh bitterness that was very up front.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
At table and vine beer tasting, smoky, they used peated malts straight from Scotland and it shows. Awesome character added to a complex intricate scotch ale. The best beer at the beer tasting hands down. Great job!

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
The aroma consists of caramel and toffee, with an essence of smokiness. The beer pours a dark brown, but its consistency and lack of lacing leads to a watery appearance. The flavor is dominated by the astringency of ethyl alcohol. A slight smokiness is noticeable, along with notes of roasted malts, but the jejune nature of the ale makes it overall uninteresting.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Poured a clear dark reddiish brown color with a moderate frothy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted malt and earthy hop aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted sweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid complex drinkable brew.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
5/06/2010: The People’s Pint McShagger’s Double Ewe Scotch Ale... Aroma: Hard candy; cola-like; water; scorched. Appearance: Deep reddish brown color with a thin beige-colored head. Flavor: Watery caramelized malts and sugar; very weak undertones of peak; scorched/burnt finish. Palate: Medium-bodied; smooth, but a bit thin for the style. Overall: Disappointing; not to style; not good.
22 fluid oz. bottle (7.0% ABV) shared by shareanevada [BA}. Thanks Ben! Rating #10 for this beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Solid, thick off-white head. Equally thick lace on the glass. Dark brown color but light does shine through.
Impressive chocolate aroma. Slightly chalky.
The chocolate shows up strong in the taste. If I were blindfolded, I would guess that this is a porter as it has all of the characteristics. This is a dry beer. The body, while full, is not at all syrupy. There is also some notable hop bitterness albeit in the background. The aftertaste is closer to dry cocoa.
