draught. copper-brown coloured body, small white head. malty, caramel aroma. sweet malty flavour without a whole lot of complexity. body is a little bit thin and watery. Not bad.

Clear, light brown, dense small head. Light roasted aroma mix with sweeter malts. Clean, mature ale. Lasing flavors, decent finish. Technically best of Pepperwood.

Mild and fresh use of Roast and nuts. Alcohol under 5%, a brown something between an American or British. Roast in aroma. Lace in dark brown appearance. Coffee mid-sip. Not overally hopped, but balance, and a moderate complexity.

I had this one over dinner one night and liked it. This beer poured a dark brown with a nice foamy head. Lots of roasted flavour. Smooth and very tasty.

Brownish red color with a little head. The nose is fairly minimal - slightly fruity with some coffee notes. The body is spritzy with a light fruitiness that leads way to a coffee bean finish. Lacking malt complexity and (dare i say it) hops. A brown ale that lacks.

UPDATED: JAN 17, 2005 Re-Rate New sample seems less roasty, and more well balanced. Lots of pleasant malt. Basically the same flavours as last time but I enjoyed it a lot more. 7/3/6/3/15 Original Rating Slightly reddish-brown body with a mocha beige head. Flavour is nicely malty but the notes of roasty mocha with some coffee like bitterness were distracting for me personally because they are not flavours I am fond of. (A coffee drinker I am definitely not.) Pleasant mouthfeel. 7/3/6/3/13

Dark amber with brown frothy head. Roasted malty aroma. Nothing too spectacular here though. Creamy palate bitters on the sides of my tounge. Faint aroma but decent.

Oakes (11770) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 6, 2003
Clear molasses colour. Aroma shows toffee, earthy, slight soy sauce (not enough to bother me, thankfully), and chocolate marzipan. Body is quite sweet, but with a pronounced toffee development, light caramel, and finishes slightly tart. That finish gives it that Jacksonesque "moreish" quality to what is otherwise a nursing beer. While straightforward, this also possesses significant depth of character.

Nice ruby-brown colour with a tan head. Aroma of nuts and coffee with a hint of chocolate. Robust body, and a toasty flavour of chocolate and coffee. Very porterish, and very good.

Deep garnet w/ wispy, tan head. Toasty, nutty nose w/ some light coffee & chocolate notes. Firm body. Sweet chocolate & toasted nut flavour w/ light coffee undertones that linger in the finish.
