3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a near clear light copperish gold with a white head that lasts throughout the beer and laces slightly. Aroma has sweet grains and sage with a good amount of sweet pears underlying. Flavor starts with sage and sweet grains and is joined by sweet pears that are slightly tart.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle @ Exira Beer Summit IV, Day 3. Thanks to jcnielsen! Pours a hazy golden orange appearance with an off white head. Big apple/pear, cinnamon honey, fairly spicy, a bit herbal aroma. Tangy white fruity, cinnamon, nutmeg, a bit peppery, pear, slightly juicy, a bit floral bitter, fairly dry flavor. Iím not that into it but it is clean and fun.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours hazy dull orange with a dense off-white head. The aroma really shows the white sage and pear - very clean and natural. There are also some banana esters, thick chewy malt, red apples, earthiness and the Belgian yeast slant. It has a medium / full body that has some heft, but not too weighty and there is light sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with fruity and caramel malt, pepper, pear, sage and a fruit juice aspect. The finish is dry, fruity and spicy. Really nice and does a good job of hiding the 9.3% abv.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sample at Bridge Tap House & Wine Bar. Pours a hazy copper-gold color with a medium off-white head that diminishes gradually. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of sage, fruit and yeast. Medium to full body with an herbal character and flavors of fruity yeast and malt. The finish is fruity up front with a white sage aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The aroma is sweet and smells of pear juice and the pear skin. There's a tartness to it that is almost citrusy appleish.
You definitely taste the pear, with a bit of dry grapefruit tart and bitterness. The white sage is very subtle.
Overall this beer is outstanding and has me hoping its a sign of things to come for both Penrose and Perennial!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Perennial during their second anniversary event. This came with a one finger head and was honey gold and somewhat hazy. Soft fruit in the aroma is delicate and interesting. I am not sure that the style is correct here and this could be a saison. I did taste the pears and there was more complex fruit from the yeast. Very soft hops and nice carbonation felt right in the mouth. Malts were light as was the earth. The malts were pale. This was nice and had enough complexity to keep me interested and enough flavor to keep my taste buds happy.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAY 27, 2013 On tap and stemware/sampler served at an introduction to Penrose Brewing, hosted by Eric & Tom at the House Pub in St Charles, IL.. Displayed a hazed, orangy straw hue, with modest, white head foam, and spotty lacing. The aroma started with a light malt sweetness, then a touch of yeastiness, floral hints, citrus & estery pear, and subtle spice as sage. Light bodied, with a bit of watery texture that could have been remedied by higher effervescence. Tart, almost sour to the palate, and dry finishing. Young, but refreshing and surprisingly sessionable for the high but well hidden alcohol.(8%) Styled as a Belgian Golden Ale, but Iím going to quibble and call it a high abv Belgian Blond Ale.
