In late January, we held a funky, wild night of a total Brett Takeover here in the tasting room. Along with an entire evening of Brett beers, Brewmaster Phil Wymore and Brewmaster Chase Healy of Prairie Artisan Ales collaborated on a beer. The result of their labor is Dual Artisanship, a hoppy red Saison! Centennial, Simcoe, and Citra combine with a secondary Brett fermentation creatiing a big, tropical juciness followed by a dry, funky finish.

Cloudy and funky right off the get go. Tropical fruit and dry saison finish. Lots going on. A little prickly/gassy, otherwise great.

Sample from Derek’s bottle I think. Cloudy yellow. Lots of brett yeast in the aroma with some earth. Thick head that leaves a lace on the glass. Dry, very dry actually, wet plants, earth, and dirt. I don’t think this is sweetened. Good.

Bottle thanks to BMart. Nose is super Brett forward with lots of juicy fruitiness. Like juicy fruit bubblegum. Moderate funkiness and hay, straw. Fairly clear, reddish blonde color with a huge, Rocky, white head. Taste is more funk forward than fruit with a dry finish. Moderate alcohol warming, feels big. Lively carbonation. Overall the aroma is great but the taste fails to live up. While still good, I was hoping for more fruit in the flavor. The big alcohol presence is also a turn off for me.

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate florals, grass, perfume, and a hint of lemon peel. It pours a dark amber with a small white head that fades to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring. The flavor starts with a quick dose of citrus. The finish has moderate florals, grass, and herbal notes. It’s light-medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

On tap at Harry’s Hofbrau. Pours clear red with an ivory head that is sustained. Aggressive citrus and pine on the nose, taste follows suit with a secondary taste of tartness and earthy funk. Excellent.

Bottle from Berkeley Bowl. Pours orange amber with an attractive beige head and a fruity aroma. There is a funky sourish tropical fruit flavor that stays on the palate for a while.
