Draft. Black with a thick mocha head and nice lacing. Aroma is mint chocolate candy, roasted barley, and dark malts. Taste is cocoa, dark chocolate, mint, roasted barley, vanilla, and anise. Thicker and creamy with a semi dry finish.

Jet black pour with a motor oil like consistency. No head, nearly still. Aroma is super minty. Taste is an assault of mint and bitter dark chocolate. Lingering bitterness from the roasted malt. Full bodied, no lace. If you don’t like mint, I don’t recommend trying this. Well executed beer.

Note: 7/10

sample from new batch bottle, pored nose is slight roast, sweet chocholate, but that’s all fairly masked. the mint is just dominating. after eight cookies, peppermint, and fresh toothpaste. we had the barrel aged version a while ago, which was pretty enjoyable, and not as heavy on the on mint. this is just hard to finish.

75cl bottle. Small brown head atop black body with brown edge. Aroma is moderately sweet, milk chocolate, some mint, light roast. Taste is moderately sweet, milk chocolate, some mint, earthy, light roast, alcohol warming. Medium-full body, some stickiness.

Black pour with no head. Earthy mint and black roast fill the nose. The flavor is a bit roasty and bitter, a touch acrid, and overly earthy minty. It’s a bit bitter and herbal for my taste with not quite enough chocolate sweetness.

Smells like a thin mint, milk chocolate with a hint of mint. Pours a dark black color with a short lasting tan well laced head. Tastes like a thin mint with an oily medium body and a bitter malt finish.

Tap at Harry’s Hofbrau. Pours near black with tan head that lingers nicely. Both the taste and aroma (especially taste) exhibit too much mint. The mint has a fake tasting aspect to it that is rather unpleasing. Slight alcohol warming present.

On tap at Violet Crown (Charlottesville, VA). Smells like a peppermint patty. Black with a mostly fading beige head. Pretty dry, burnt flavors, minty, dark chocolate, earthy, birchlike. Full bodied.

Perennial 17 on tap at Finn’s Manor. A deep black with a rusty tan head, the mint chocolate nose attracts and the beer delivers a flavor of thin mints all the way. Fun stuff
