This was a sample sized glass at Dark Lord Day 2013 at the Hampton Inn Bottle Sharing. It poured black. Tan head. Thick lacing. Powerful nose of rich dark chocolate, some cinnamon spice, and other spices. Bold in body and rich and creamy in the mouth. Some alcohol detected. The flavor is very rich and there is chocolate in abundance. The finish is bittersweet. A real sipper and simply fabulous, Lucky to get some of this.

This might be one of the best beers I’ve ever tasted. Soft and silky despite being very high in ABV and very well balanced with a bit of spice thanks to the anchos. The bittersweet cacao nibs bring balance to the beer, complementing the spice character derived from the peppers while cinnamon sticks add a bit of sweetness and spice, working as a meeting point for the cacao and peppers. The head lasts forever and the beer sits well in a glass, meaning that you can sip on it for an hour and flavor even improves. If you find this beer, treasure it, for it will not last long! Amazing.

Tap at ues pony bar. Pours opaque black with foamy brown head. Nose of rich chocolate much like river poor Augustus Gallup fell into. Tastes super sweet of dark chocolates, little syrupy, espresso, earth, light dark fruits. Grabbed the last one poured glad I did

750ml bottle, but this is the second time I have tried this beer, the first time was at a local fest a few months back. It’s so distinctive that I almost rated it from memory, but decided to wait. Turns out I didn’t have to wait too long. Strong nose of dark chocolate, cinnamon, smoked chile, and cocoa, some pepper and earthiness buried far in the background. Completely black in color, utterly opaque and solid-looking, with a fading head of medium brown foam. Flavor profile is very sweet and full of roasty, dark malts, more dark chocolate, strong cinnamon overtones, chile, molasses and dark toffee, followed up by a light to moderate amount of bitterness late. Smooth and thick on the palate, completely coats the tongue, body is gigantic. I like this but only in very small quantities. I would be hard pressed to drink even 12 oz., 750ml would be flat-out impossible to put down. Thanks to Tom for the sample!

Bottle shared with friends. Finally getting to try Abraxas! We were all in agreement that this was pretty much a baby version of Hunahpu’s. Good spicy chocolate notes with a little bit of heat on the back end. Can’t wait to try the BA version, if I can ever land one!

Aroma is spicy, nutmeg, and a tiny tiny bit of lemony sourness. Interesting. Flavor is smooth roastiness.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured black color with an average frothy light brown head that lasted with good lacing. Aroma was a heavy toasted malt, toasted peppers, sweet spice and dark chocolate. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Heavy complex toasted sweet spice, pepper and chocolate malt flavor and a heavy complex dark chocolate finish of long duration. This is a standout beer.
