4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle pours a rich dark brown with a dark tan head. The aroma is a little spicy, with cinnamon. The taste is very rich, smooth with a full body. I get the cacao nibs not too much alcohol in the finish. After taste of cinnamon. Pretty good imperial stout.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Many thanks to Michael fot the bottle. 2013 Vintage.
Pours a brown, bubbly head, which disappears soon, while yielding a jet black color.
Smells of roasted malts, molasses, vanilla, honey, dried berries, cocoa nibs and a gentle amount of coffee. Underneath lies a layer of organic, herbal, slightly hot chilies.
Earthy, toasted malts and bakers chocolate build the foundation, with sweeter malts on top of them, including molasses, cane sugar, syrup and a hint of dried dark berries. The uprising sweetness gets balanced by creamy milk chocolate, cocoa nibs, cinnamon and spicy, then peppery, burning, herbal chilies. The chocolate qualities get complimented by a noteable amount of bitter coffee, which got a dry note to it. The taste of this beer in general is extremely versatile, it begins silk and creamy, and while it remains throughout smooth, it gets quite a bit heat to it, resulting from the chilies, acting as a convincing counterpoint to the upwelling sweetness, while accentuating the earthy malts and pleasantly bitter coffee. Has a very long finish, beginning right after the chili bite, along with a coffeish bitterness and an earthy note, as well as a toffee glimpse, while the chili burn warms up the belly. Every single flavor is put outstandingly well into this brew, all components unfold on the palate in an enjoyable way, while none dominates the taste on its own.

Bottle at de Garde, Tillamook. Pours a dark brown black, little bit of dark brown head. Aroma lovely, smoky chiles, cacao, roasted grain character. Body very arch and dry, some spice, but also a slight roasty bitterness and some warming. Complex and lovely, bringing together some of my true favorites.

UPDATED: NOV 6, 2014 Bottle, thanks John for sharing! Pitch black pour with a small creamy, tan head that collects to a nice ring. Aroma is fainter than expected but still very good. Cinnamon cookies, chocolate, roast, vanilla, and a hint of smokey peppers. Tastes good too. Strong vanilla and roast, moderate chocolate, light cinnamon and a very light pepper heat in the finish. Not a smooth as I was hoping. A very good imperial stout but I was hoping for better. This may be an old bottle so I hope to revisit with a fresh one some time.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Wonderful beer. Light touch of cinnamon gives this a unique twist, and chili adds spice. Thick texture, with lots of poignant roast amplified by spiciness. Pours black with mocha head and lacing. Nearly as good as the barrel-aged version I had a couple weeks ago but for once I must defer to the barrel as being slightly more perfect. Bottle pour at Churchkey’s 5th anniversary.

750. Pours jet black with a dense and creamy burnt tan head that goes away. Big complex roasty sweet nose; dark malt sugars followed by gentle peppery counterpoint followed by dark chocolate. Sticky thick body with soft carb. Very cookie-ish mid palate with caramel and peppers and chocolate all rolling through. Never heavy or cloying or overbearing, but still dessert-y. Lovely complex beer.
