750ml bottle: pours an oily opaque with dense froth of beige head. Has a rich sweet dark caramel and chocolate nose with some dark fruits. Starts with good rich fullness and chewy dark caramel sweetness with lots of raisins and molasses with a touch of warming spice in the finish. Has good complexity and should age well.

Bottle courtesy of milsem. Pours viscous oily black with a small creamy mocha head that leaves a small trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty and heavy spicy with roasted malts, burnt caramel, toffee, burnt toast, dark roast coffee, bitter dark chocolate, cinnamon, ancho chili, moist soil and hints of alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty and spicy. Mouthfeel is viscous, oily, round, astringent, tiny boozy and near full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with roasty malts, bitter chocolate and heavy ancho chili and cinnamon spiciness. Extremely spicy which gets over the top for me. A good spicy imperial stout but definitely not the best in the genre.

Good the peppers where just a little too hot.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle, thanks to Mike. I can smell all of the spices on the aroma, but nothing else. The flavor is warming peppers, chocolate, sugary sweet. I think this is overly sweet and thick. I do not think she would help this.

Draft at Mikkeller Bar in San Francisco. Pours a dark black color with a thick, creamy tan head. Oh man. Crazy cinnamon aroma with some chocolate in the background. But the taste? Ah. Maze. Ing! This might be the best stout I have ever had. So complex. Cinnamon rules but there is some deep, dark chocolate notes and a slight spicy finish. And the flavor is overwhelmingly good. I am stunned at how good this is. A+.

Poured into a snifter. Bottled 11/2015. 3.75 A: Black color. One finger of light brown creamy head. Retention is about what youíd expect from a beer this big and a few wisps of lacing are left. 4.0 S: Quite sweet overall. It starts and finishes with dark chocolate and cocoa nibs. Slight vegetal pepper from the anchos which meshes well with the cinnamon and vanilla. Just a touch of dark roast coffee with stronger molasses and caramel. Supple roastiness that falls behind the chocolate sweetness. Itís a bit more mellow than I was expecting, but itís still pretty good. 4.0 T: Despite the nose having just hints of coffee in it, the taste is a borderline coffee bomb. Again the chiles, cinnamon, and vanilla are mellow and complementary. Just a touch of heat is realized. Sweet chocolate would be the dominant flavor if the coffee wasnít so abundant. Moderately sweet throughout but with a roasty bitter finish. Again, this is good, but the flavors arenít as impressive as the reputation might suggest. 3.75 M: Lighter heavy body. Good moderate carbonation. Mild-moderate creaminess and a mild heat that builds some momentum as it is consumed. 4.0 D: Itís a good beer, but I was expecting quite a bit more. Honestly, it doesnít hold a candle to the regular Speedway Stout that I had a couple nights ago. This mixed with the fact that this costs a ton more and is infinitely harder to get a bottle of makes me okay if I never have this again. ★ 1,470 characters DavoleBomb, Jan 28, 2016

[1/27/16] Draught at Mikkeller Bar in San Francisco. Black with a brown head. Aroma of roast, chocolate, lots of cinnamon, chili. Sweet and spicy flavor with roast, chocolate, hot chili. Full-bodied. Not bad, but too spicy for my liking. Kinda disappointing actually.

Tap. Pitch black with a nice, brown head. Spicy nose, big cinnamon, vanilla, chocolate. Very spicy flavor, tons of cinnamon, vanilla, and cocoa, with a touch of chili. A bit too much cinnamon maybe, but rich and luscious.
