4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle... This beer rocks!... Tar black pour with a mid-sized, cappuccino head that’s gone in a flash. The olfactory standouts are Cuban-roast ground coffee and dark chocolate – deep, dark mocha with a dab of jalapeno pepper. Full-bodied with a silky mouthfeel and restrained carbonation. The flavor is burnt and bittersweet chocolate and black malts balanced by big-time, deeply roasted, acrid, coffee beans. Finishes burnt, acrid and tangy. Thanks so much, landhoney, for providing yet another bottle of world class beer!

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours jet black with a dark brown dissipating head, leaving a weak rim of foam that hugged my glass. The aroma is of a balance between boozy sweet bourbon, lightly roasted coffee, and vanilla. There is minor scents of sweet carmel malts, cocoa, and subtle oak notes. In the flavor I tasted rich sugary malts, toffee, bitter cocoa, medium to heavy booze, bitter espresso, and a subtle fruit like flavor. The finish was sweet, full of defined booze, and it had a moderately lingering bitterness. Overall a nicely done bourbon and coffee stout.

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle share at Hampton Inn pre-DLD party. Pour is black with a small tan head. Aroma is standard for an imperial stout - roasted malts, chocolate, sugar, ash, and coffee. Flavor is much heavier on the coffee with some cocoa and spice in the background. Coffee-forward, coffee-backward, coffee-everything.

750 ml bottle shared by phaleslu. Pours black in color with a small tan head. The aroma and flavor have a big rich coffee component that even covers the barrel to an extent. Roasted malts, dark chocolate, earth, wood tannins, some bourbon, with decent coffee bitterness to the finish. I enjoyed this one quite a bit. Only knock was the body was a touch on the thin side.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pour is insanely thick black with a small tan head. Looks sinister. Aroma is loaded with chocolate brownie, faint toffee, and notable coffee. Rich. Flavor is chocolate brownie and coffee up front with a long vanilla/ caramel/ toffee finish. The finish lasts for minutes. Not surprisingly, the coffee becomes more pronounced as it warns but it is so much more in-balance now than when it was fresh. Also, surprisingly drinkable.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Had on tap at Local Option. Served in a 10 oz. snifter. Enjoyed a few pours of this guy.
A: Pours a dark, inky black color with a dark tan head forming on the pour. It recedes to a thin head leaves some soapy lace down the glass.
S: Fresh ground coffee beans. Some espresso, chocolate and light roast. Very light barrel notes in the background, but this is straight coffee.
T: The barrel thankfully comes out a little more in the taste. Some caramel sweetness and light oak. Minimal bourbon notes mix with the chocolate bitterness and of course, the coffee. Big Espresso and coffee bean notes. Freshly ground without being overly sharp or acidic in nature.
M: Medium to heavy bodied with a medium low carbonation level. Chewy and silky across the palate with a smooth finish.
O: A really nice coffee stout. It needs some more barrel notes to bring it into the upper echelon of BA coffee stouts, but it was still really good.
