3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle purchased at Binnyís Grand. Poured into my Portsmouth tulip glass. Pours a pitch black in color with a fingers worth of head cocoa colored head. The beer has a surprisingly good head retention. Pretty complex nose, though it isnít great. I get chocolate malt, cocoa, toasted marshmallow, some light coconut, and just the smallest amount of the lactose. There is something there that is a little "off", but I canít put my finger on what it is. This started out tasting strictly like a milk stout, but as I continue to drink it, I can definitely get the coconut. Once it warms a little, it reminds me of an almond joy. In addition to chocolate and coconut, I get a little cinnamon. Moderate mouthfeel, some astringency, light sweetness, lightly boozy, and a moderate finish. Pretty solid effort from Perennial, I really like what theyíre doing.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Tasted in July 2013 from a capped 750mL bottle that Adam and I picked up during a baseball trip in St. Louis. Pours black with an average brown head that leaves average lace. The nose is super roasty with dark chocolate, coffee, and a bit of a soy sauce note. The flavor is sweet coconut up front with some milk chocolate, roast, and a soy sauce note suggesting oxidation or infection. The body is full with average carbonation and a long, almost sour, sweet and roasted finish. Will try this one again if I get the chance.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Drain pour. Bottle had clearly turned and was only a few months old. Very sour cherry notes and no hint of coconut. Hopefully just a bad bottle. Will try again and will update the rating.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pour is black with a tight mocha head. Nose is heavy roast with a moderate sugary sweetness and a faint coconut touch. Taste is less roast but far more sweet. The coconut is more present and there is still some roast up front. The sweetness is overpowering and sugary. Full bodied and strong carbonation with an oily slick feel.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle thanks to RobertDale! Pours dark black with a medium somewhat fizzy brown head that dissipates fairly quickly leaving a ring that laces pretty well. Aroma is surprisingly roasty, ash, chocolate, anise. Flavor is a bit acidic; tons of ashes here, a light tartness with the acidity; infected, methinks. No real coconut in the flavor, burned malts and some chocolate. Lightish body for the style, not really that silky either. This beer disappoints. Probably should have drank it upon receipt.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
750 ml Bottle from Dawsonís while visiting Maryland. Bottled 4/2013,so I really should have paid attention to the dating when I bought this. i assume the coconut will be gone. Pours black with a one finger mocha colored head that looks lightly creamy. Sweet lactose and chocolate aroma, a good bit of roast, donít get much coconut. Flavor is sweet lactose, graham cracker, and again not much coconut to speak of except maybe a hint of sweetness that isnít lactose or chocolate. There seems to be a bit of cardboardy oxidation in this as well. Body is medium with medium plus carbonation. Not a bad beer, but I must say I am a little disappointed here but that may not be fair given the bottle date and known disappearance of coconut in these beers.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
From Keir. Thanks!
A: Pure black with no head. Good legs.
N: Cocoa, lactose, coffee. Coconut is non-existent, and thatís incredibly disappointing.
T: Smoke and slightly sour. Yeah, no. Whereís the malt.
M: Lighter body, not impressive.
O: Meh. Not sure what was going on with this, but after experiencing the heights of Last Snow, this is a failure that perhaps is infected.

Bottle. Silky mouthfeel. I am missing any evidence of coconut. A great silky smooth flavor like a milk stout. Pretty tasty.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pitch black coloured body with a oily, two centimetre tall brown head and a completely opaque black glow. Aroma of rich roasted malt, alcohol, coconut, pandanus (used to make kaya), taro and hints of spices - perhaps some curry and kaffir lime? Full-bodied; Rich roasty malt at first then gives way immediately to sweetness from the coconut and pandan flavours, a touch of acid comes from limes and all blends well with some spices such as anise and fennel seed. Aftertaste is nice and robust with a great blend of spices, savoury, sweet and milky - very nice and well done, all with some alcohol, but not too much. Overall, I pretty much expected a beer like this, but with the reviews as low as they were, I didnít think Iíd get this - but this is a great beer, itís that simple. The flavour profile is there, the complexity is great and the range in tastes from the initial taste to the last bit on the tongue at the end is amazing. Definitely worth trying if you can find this - even if you have to bring it back a few hundred miles! I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Binnyís (South Loop) in Chicago, Illinois on 21-August-2013 for US$15.99 sampled at home in Washington on 08-January-2014 after a chilly night.

1.4 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
This one poured a still medium to dark brown with a beige head. Aroma was of of soy, ketchup, vinegar, and wocestershire sauce. Flavor was similar, definitely sour and or infected. Just not good at all.
