This poured a deep red to brown with a beige head. Aroma was of dark fruit skins, grape juice, Belgian yeast and dark candy sugar. Flavor is dark fruit up front, very light fruity tart tang,.Belgian yeast and a chocolatey finish. A lot more complex than I was expecting.

Clean dark copper/brown pour with one finger of deep yellowish tan head. Nutty/biscuity aroma with a weird lean quality. Watery and kind of fruity in the flavor. Fruit skins and a light acidity. Meh. Needs filling out in the body.

Draft notes from Capone’s. Pours chestnut with 1-finger tan head. Nose was roasty, earthy vienna malt, fig, cacao, brown sugar. Tasted earthy malty, with some fig and tart berry flavor at the finish.

Vanilla fruit aroma and murky dark amber color. Has a sweet rich currant flavor with a very slight bitter long finish and fizzy palate.

PhillyCraft (3455) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 1, 2014
Bottle, pours plum color with small white head no lace. Smells like plums, raisin, fig, and currant. Flavor is infected copper, sour butt, currants and weird off rusty notes. Thin and not memorable. Way too astringent.

Pours a hazy deep brownish amber with a small off white head. Aroma of sour cherries, caramel and toasted malt. Flavor of sour cherries, toasted nuts. Nice and dry.

TH28 (150) - - MAR 1, 2014
Appearance is dark brown with non existent foam cap. Aroma is dark fruit, clove, raisin. Taste is caramel malt, burnt sugar, pepper, and a distinct tart/sour character. Very similar to a Flanders brown as opposed to a quad. Mouthfeel is a little thin and light for a quad, with low carbonation. Finishes with caramel sweetness and a slight tartness.

   AROMA 3/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 7/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 13/20
Damico (2693) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 24, 2014
Pours dark unclear with a purple hue for the currants and a very small amount of grayish. Aroma brings no currants, no sweet or sour prevalence, just faint berry. Flavor brings light pleasant fruit with some tart settling on, a bit of grapes, and then the ending is a bit abrasive in an unpleasant way. Body is clean and lighter than expected.

On tap at Capone’s. Poured a brown color with a smaller sized head. Currants, berries, some fruitiness, and some toastiness. Very light tart finish.

Rating 2,700
This has been sitting in the cellar for a while. A good beer for a rating milestone did not let down the expectations put forth by the Half Acre and Perennial brands. A true world class fruit beer is just as good as anything that new Glarus puts out and a benchmark for anyone to aspire to.

Aroma / Appearance - A rich purplish base is like alcoholic prune juice complete with an ivory head. Plus, raisins, sweet chocolate, and malt all cling in the air like a fog. A heavy alcoholic texture lets you know that it means business.

Flavor / Palate - Raisins, plums, and dark chocolate carry the malt bill to center stage. Driven by grapes this is almost like a boozy version of Fanta grape soda. I don’t know if I could drink a whole bottle in one sitting although I would definitely love to take up the challenge.
