Draft at Jerry’s. Dark mahogany with decent, creamy, tan head, good lacing / Mellow nose of dark fruit, berry, smoke, chocolate / Medium to full body, lightly sweet & sour, steely but somewhat lush, with excellent balance and lightly bitter finish / Flavors of sour black current, dark cherry, smoke, jerky, grass, chocolate / A superb sour.

Tap @ Mekong shared with HopTsing. Very dark with thick cream head and lots of lacing. Smells roasty, boozy, herbalescent, and tart. Tastes roasty and bitter. Not too heavy. I actually really like this which I wasn’t expecting.

750 ml bottle. Proud is a fairly dark brown... highlights come through on the pour, but in the glass it’s pretty dark. Head is fairly thin and tan, maybe a quarter inch by the time it’s all said and done. Aromas are kind of muted, but I pick up some fruit (smells like black cherries to me), very light chocolate notes and a little graininess. Flavor is interesting... Tastes a lot like a very good cherry stout. There is a decent amount of roasty maltiness but the crown jewel is the current presence which is robust and carries the beer from start to finish, but gets tarter as it goes until a fairly sour finish. I was a little afraid of this one, thinking it could go south pretty quickly, but I didn’t expect it to be this good.

4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: SEP 13, 2013 The appearance of this beer is a dark reddish brown color with a medium off-white head, and the aroma has hints of toasted and caramel malts, Belgian yeast, and raisins. The taste is slightly sweet, mildly umami, and slightly sour, and the palate mixes an thin texture, medium body, soft carbonation, and a long finish.

Sampled at Urban Chestnuts Wolpertinger - 1st anniversary - Pours dark brown with a rich tan head. The aroma is very malty with lots of toast, some Belgian yeast and that is well balance by the tartness that is brought by the black currants. Medium / thick body that is very smooth until the end when the semi-soft carbonation hits. The flavor starts with dark malt with not much bitterness, dark fruits, sourness from the black currants and a ’big’ taste without any abv tasted, but it has to be there with so much going on. The finish has more fruitiness and sourness. Really nice one here.
