4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: APR 19, 2014 Dark amber with a hint of red. This is the sour brown LA Boheme which was just released 12/21/2013. Tart with a hint of cherries. Refreshing without a long sour finish. Slight sweet aroma. One of the better sours I?ve tasted. I just had it on tap at perennial (4/19/2014), and it is better on tap. You get a strong vanilla flavor at the end of the cherry flavor. If you can, try it at perennial on tap.

Bottle... RBSG 2014… Jack was nimble, Jack was quick, but Jack couldn’t avoid this beer’s roundhouse kick!… Dark brown pour with flashes of dirty-orange and a small, fizzy, white head that doesn’t stick around for long. The bouquet is mainly earthy and woody with some sour cherries also sneaking their way into the mix. Full-bodied with a milky mouthfeel and soft carbonation. The flavor is an intermingling of funkiness, sourness, fruitiness and woodiness layered nicely on an underpinning of caramel. Finishes tart and fruity. World class beer!

Taste from the bottle at the brewery during RBSG. Clear red brown color. Thin ring of off-white / khaki head. Awesome flemish sour cherry oak wood aroma, light spicy tannin. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation. Slick texture. Great bigger sour taste, light to moderate sweet. Great spicy woody kriek.

Bottle @ Perennial. Reddish copper/amber pour with an off-white head. Tart red fruit such as cherry and berries. A bit of apple, red wine vinegar, and some lemon. A light malty/caramel sweetness and some vanilla. Flavor is a bit heavy on the Jolly Ranchers. Lots of apple, cherry, and berries. Lemon juice and vinegar sourness. Hints of sugar and caramel. Not my favorite of the beers offered during RBSG.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at brewery during RBSG 2014 Bus Tour. Lots of dry fruit and cherry, with some light vinegar and a touch of woodiness from the barrel. Taste is smooth and has a moderate apple and jolly rancher character to it. Didn’t get an overpowering cherry aroma or flavor, but a nice sour beer nonetheless.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This is copper brown w/ only a little bit of head. It has a big pineapple brett nose. While it’s quite tart, it is also a bit sweet which is something I generally find a bit off-putting but in this case high-carbonation cuts it down and the result is still pleasant. I am getting lots of fruit and find the brew dries out quite a lot in the finish which is lemon juice tartness and a bit of tannins presumable from oak. This really has the right kind of sourness for my tastes and each sip begs for another.

Excellent application of barrel. Tannins in the beer pair perfectly with the wine barrel. Quite good!
