Brown pour, tan head. Flavors of brown sugar, figs, dates, bruleed sugar, very light hops, sugar cookies. Pretty good...although the ratings may show that this one isnt holding up so well.
2.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20 BBB63 (5423) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - APR 24, 2013
My second 750ml bottle and this one served in my Big Arse Tripel Karmeliet tulip: Mahagany hued with a mostly lasting initial huge head and very good lace. The aroma has notes of raisins, toffee, cotton candy, brown sugar, roast, sour cherries and some acetic notes along with tobacco and earthy notes. Hints of flowers, dill, and cardamom as well. The taste is a hodgepodge of sweet, sour and spice more like a BAD BELGIAN STRONG ale than a Barleywine (English or American). This is cloy sweet with a infected midsection and a fakes spicy finish. DRAIN POUR. Two bottles and the same thing. Utter waste of monies like most of the big bottle offerings from this brewery.

750 from Capone’s. Pours thick and muddy brown with minimal head. Nose was big figgy and raisiny fruit, earthy nutty brown sugar, caramel, toffee. Tastes fruity, with a big fig and prune flavor, some mid-palate tartness, some earthy brown sugar, and a fruity tart finish.

750 bottle. Pours dark hazy brown with a small tan head. Nose is malty, caramel, sweet and sugary. Taste starts off malty and chewy, with a lingering sweetness on the end. Thick and chewy with a full flavor profile. This is a big beer that’s meant to be shared.

On tap at The Harvest Cafe in Delavan IL. This poured a beautiful deep brown. Aroma was awesome. A ton of fruity esters. Taste is really balance. Not too sweet. Finishes dry and it’s not too hot. Really great.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Indra (2482) - Overland Park, Kansas, USA - FEB 17, 2013
Bottle. Big aroma of brown sugar, red apple skin, toffee and raisin, some mildly spicy, herbal hop and medicinal alcohol in the background noted, very malty and fruity overall. Cloudy medium red-brown in color, head is fine and lasting. Flavor profile is malty, lightly tart, full of dark fruit, toffeeish and brown sugary sweetness and toasted bread, perhaps a hint of spiced cider in the background, and finishing with more of the dried fruit character. Smooth, coating mouthfeel, low in effervescence with a hugely full body. Very nice stuff, actually. Good English-style Barleywine.
5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 rhsiung (340) - USA - FEB 10, 2013
there’s a flycatcher with "vermilion" in its name, but the northern cardinal on the label makes sense, since it’s a perennial, and of course the state bird. nobody else thinks this tastes smoked?

750ml Bottle A - Pours mahogany with a small tan head that dissipates quickly. Mild lacing. S - Butterscotch & toffee. T - Caramel malt, toffee, fig, raisin, & faint booze. M - Med/full bodied. Tingling carbonation. Long sweet finish. O - Well done, but I prefer some hop notes to add a bit of balance.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 theisti (2843) - Leawood, Kansas, USA - JAN 28, 2013
12 oz goblet / tulip draft at Martin City Brewing Company in Kansas City, Missouri. The pour is a murky dark brown, with a limited dark khaki head. The aroma is warming toffee, dark fruit, caramel malt sweetness and a warming hint of alcohol in the back. Nice nose. The taste is real big on the toffee and caramel, quite full flavor, transitioning to the plum fruit in the back. Alcohol is present, though primarily in the long malty finish. The palate is heavy to medium bodied, low carbonation level, and the lingering sweet warming booze finish. Nice Barley Wine, I have enjoyed these Perennial beers so far.
