COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Vermilion is a big, rich English style Barleywine that, as its name suggests, has tints of ruby around the edges of its brown body, with a toffee, caramel, toasted pecan sweetness that is kept in balance with a smooth, alcohol warmth, and slightly fruity American hop note. It may be enjoyed right away, or allowed to age in the bottle.

750 ml bottle poured a cloudy reddish amber with a lasting creamy amber head. Aromas of toffee, caramel, pipe tobacco and light earthiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of toffee, tobacco, earthiness and light sherry with a smooth dry lingering sherry finish.

Theydon_Bois (9729) - The ’Sham, Surrey, ENGLAND - AUG 28, 2013
Bottle at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2013, 10/08/13. Dark chestnut/mahogony brown with a thin light tan covering. Nose is light fart, toffee, sugars, whiff of smoke, woody notes. Taste comprises grain, sugars, medicinal notes, TCP, toffee, light smoke, dark fruits. Medium bodied for 10%, moderate carbonation, dry finish. Not unpleasant but not a barley wine I’d bother revisiting, lacks depth for the ABV.

Brown pour, tan head. Flavors of brown sugar, figs, dates, bruleed sugar, very light hops, sugar cookies. Pretty good...although the ratings may show that this one isnt holding up so well.

750 mL bottle from Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville, about a year old. Pours a hazy dark rust color with a thin fizzy tan head that fades almost instantly. Aroma of toffee, anise, apple, dark fruits. The taste is toffee malt, maple syrup, anise, spice, mild butter hops. Medium-full bodied, low carbonation, decent balance, fairly strong heat. Hard to be disappointed when your expectations are so low, but this is decent.

The taste is caramel, toffee, raisin, sultana, wood, light charred wood, earth, decent bitterness, cocoa and light alcohol warmth. Full body and moderate carbonation. A touch sweet, but well put together. Nice.

Ibrew2or3 (7055) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - SEP 26, 2014
75cl bottle pours with a nice clear deep copper body that supports a mocha colored head. The aroma offers up prunes, brown sugar, raisins, molasses, figs and dates. Nice, these notes are integrated and pretty inviting. The taste is smooth with sweet malts and then figs, dates and prunes swimming in a thin pool of molasses. It stays just like this right into the finish. This is a solid smooth fruity and sweet English style barleywine.
