COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Vermilion is a big, rich English style Barleywine that, as its name suggests, has tints of ruby around the edges of its brown body, with a toffee, caramel, toasted pecan sweetness that is kept in balance with a smooth, alcohol warmth, and slightly fruity American hop note. It may be enjoyed right away, or allowed to age in the bottle.

Draft - Chocolate, mint and spice. Jet mahogany with a rich beige. Sweet vinous, cherry, chocolate and minty spice. Very much Christmas.

25.4 oz bottle. Deep purple brown with a coating crema head. Nose is strawberry preserves, caramel, raisin, banana and wood. Medium body with zesty, biting carb. Hot with sticky lips. Taste is kind of like it smells but berry note is more earthy with a bitter, grassy finish. Quite boozy, at times medicinal; different, good.

Bottle. Black pour with tan head. Dark malty, sweet and fruit flavors. Aromas are dark and sweet. Very sweet barley wine, no real hop presence, which is what I prefer.

12 oz goblet / tulip draft at Martin City Brewing Company in Kansas City, Missouri. The pour is a murky dark brown, with a limited dark khaki head. The aroma is warming toffee, dark fruit, caramel malt sweetness and a warming hint of alcohol in the back. Nice nose. The taste is real big on the toffee and caramel, quite full flavor, transitioning to the plum fruit in the back. Alcohol is present, though primarily in the long malty finish. The palate is heavy to medium bodied, low carbonation level, and the lingering sweet warming booze finish. Nice Barley Wine, I have enjoyed these Perennial beers so far.

Pour is a dark red with a small head. Aroma is sweet molasses malt with some toffee and alcohol. Flavor is a nice caramel malt with some earthyness and a big dose of alcohol. Very sweet and malt forward and a way big alcohol presence. This is a beer to lay down for a year or two. Right now it is a huge malt bomb with a lot of alcohol.

Bottle at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2013. Chesnut copper colour with a small head. Sweet caramel in the aroma. Flavour has some more treacle and toffee notes. light spice. Medium full body.

Bottle. Big aroma of brown sugar, red apple skin, toffee and raisin, some mildly spicy, herbal hop and medicinal alcohol in the background noted, very malty and fruity overall. Cloudy medium red-brown in color, head is fine and lasting. Flavor profile is malty, lightly tart, full of dark fruit, toffeeish and brown sugary sweetness and toasted bread, perhaps a hint of spiced cider in the background, and finishing with more of the dried fruit character. Smooth, coating mouthfeel, low in effervescence with a hugely full body. Very nice stuff, actually. Good English-style Barleywine.

Pours dark unclear amber with a big creamy beige head. Aroma brings smooth sweet barleywine malts. This is a super well balanced barleywine. It has a nice blend of winter spices, subtle, but mainly a smooth lightly sweetened barleywine malt backbone, not overbearing, with smooth light chocolatey malt caramel flavors.

Bottle shared with friends. While I’ve enjoyed everything from Perennial so far this would have to be my least favorite. It sort of reminded me of burn tree bark, if that makes sense. I wanted to enjoy it but nothing really popped out at me and kept my attention.
