COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Vermilion is a big, rich English style Barleywine that, as its name suggests, has tints of ruby around the edges of its brown body, with a toffee, caramel, toasted pecan sweetness that is kept in balance with a smooth, alcohol warmth, and slightly fruity American hop note. It may be enjoyed right away, or allowed to age in the bottle.

Bottle at Chris O’s pre-GBBF shindig, 2013. Reddish-brown pour with a beige head. Coconut, chocolate and caramel aroma. Quite an earthy taste. Bit of caramel and seemingly cucumber(??) in there. I like this.

On tap at Quarry House Tavern in Silver Spring, MD. Nearly opaque, mahogany-red with a large, creamy, khaki head and excellent lacing. Aroma of toffee, booze, caramel, golden raisins, peaches, pine and raisin bread. Taste of caramel, sweet peaches, pine, toffee, booze, orange, brown sugar, raisins and blackberries. Very full body and medium/low carbonization. A complex and delicious barleywine with a nice mix of sweet malt and fruity hops. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sample from 75 cl. bottle. Dark ruby colour with a golden tint and a small, lightly tanned head. Some floaters. Sweet aroma with rich caramel malts, dark, dried fruits, oak and a vinous note. Taste is sweet. Full body with an oily feel and a soft carbonation. Finishes sweet with toasted malts and overripe fruits. Excellent BW.

Bottle shared at ChrisO’s pre-GBBF 2013 Shindig. Cloudy chestnut brown colour, thin white head. Nose is damp, musty, not right. Taste is a lot better. Aged wood, barbecued meat, smokey maple wood, caramel. Big bold flavours and pungent, a little too potent for my palate. Dodgy smell.

Bottle. Chestnut brown with a beige head. Caramel, wood, smoke, spicy, light chocolate, warming alcohol, light fruity hop notes. Oily/sticky texture, sweet but also roasted bitterness, full body. Different, but I like it.

Bottle. Dark brown with an off white head. Lots of dark fruit in the nose with a hint of chocolate. Taste is the same and packs a strong alcoholic punch. Palate is round and full. This is a great winter warmer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750 bottle. Pours dark hazy brown with a small tan head. Nose is malty, caramel, sweet and sugary. Taste starts off malty and chewy, with a lingering sweetness on the end. Thick and chewy with a full flavor profile. This is a big beer that’s meant to be shared.

Tasted from bottle into a snifter. It poured a dark, hazy, brown colour with beige foam, somewhat lasting with a little lace. Rich toffee and sticky candy sweetness. Hints of marshmallows, vanilla cream soda, caramel, apricots, hard cider. Heavy body, almost cloying mouthfeel, low-medium carbonation, very boozy. Big and bold, but a bit of a malt-bomb. Perhaps it would be more harmonious and complex with some age.
