3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 raymondwave (931) - FINLAND - MAY 27, 2008
Draught at St. Urho’s. Deep hazy reddy brown with amazingly nice small creamy head. Nose has banana, juniper, a bit of syrup, berries. Flavor is intensely sweet, bananalike, sweet again with very subtle smokiness, nuts, marzipan, berries.. pretty complex, but very intense in a juice concentrate way. Amazingly thick and even soupy mouthfeel with very very smooth creamy carb. Palate is somewhere between a stout and a tomato soup really, not sure if it’s good to be this thick.

St.Urho’s Sahti days. dark red brown quite clear, small off-white or no head. typical banana/strawberry fenoles. liquorice yeast and juniper. more of banana. sweet and soft, a little smoky. I think this is the best sahti at this time in Urho’s sahti days. Very good

UPDATED: JUN 19, 2010 Draught (St. Urho’s, Helsinki, Sahti Days 2008)
Cloudy red/brown, small tight head. Slight dry smokiness, but mostly a sweet banana aroma (with a noticeable spike at one particular ester). Incredible palate - it’s like drinking velvet! Very sweet and sticky, but utterly succulent. It softly caresses every part of the inside of your mouth. (I’ve only given 5 palate for 5 beers previously, this really is exceptional). There’s more gentle smokiness and tar, but tons of banana, like a good sahti should be. Some pleasant fruity alcohol rises up to the back of the nose. There’s even a hint of nut to finish. Some mouthfuls were even a bit like a sticky banana coffee cake. Wow! Thanks Esa and Perho!

14 Quite bitter for a sahti, slips down very easily

Dark brown color, no head. Sweet caramelly aroma with juniper and light smoke. Sticky standard sahti. Molasses, juniper ... very sweet, some alcohol in the finish. Very much in style but very thick too.
(Re-rated in 2009, similar taste).
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 sayravai (4526) - Helsinki, FINLAND - MAY 21, 2008
UPDATED: MAY 13, 2009 (Draught@Urkki ’09) Opaque light brown with no head. Aroma of asparagus, slight sweetness, and faint banana. Slightly sweet, slightly vegetably, yet quite balanced with some spices and hints of alcohol. Very different from last year - like a light version of it - but not bad.
(Draught@Urkki ’08, was 7-3-8-5-16=3.9) Murky darkish brown with no head. Strongly ryeish aroma with mild vinous sweetness. Flavor of thick rye malts, dried fruit, lots of blackcurrant(!), some licorice, well-hidden alcohol. Very thick mouthfeel without the typical sahti roughness, and no carbonation. This Sahti will not leave you in the cold. The gravity must be enormous. Never had so much black currant in a beer.
