Pours a nice amber colour with a tall beige head. Aroma is quite fruity with quite a bit of hops. Taste is also sweet fruit and caramel leading to a huge bitter finish so it’s probably a little unbalanced as a result (although it’s unbalanced in the right direction for a hop head like myself). Texture is a tiny bit oily. I was hoping for a bit more complexity too but overall a very decent effort and a stand out amongst Brazilian beers which are usually, for the most part, devoid of hops.

In short: A big run-of-the-mill ripe-fruity and floral IPA
How: From a bottle at Mondial de la Bière 2011
The look: Clear golden-copper body topped by a medium beige head with good retention
In long: Nose of dank fruity hops (pears, apricots) with floral and piney notes. Taste has a good amount of chewy caramelized malts with a lot of ripe fruits (apricots, peaches, pears) and floral hops. Something about the very-ripe fruity flavors and dank character of the hops leave a mold sensation in the after-taste. Alcohol is a bit too apparent. Light medicinal notes. I wasn’t impressed by this beer but maybe the bottle wasn’t really fresh, hard to say because it came from far away. Anyway I was told that in its country of origin many brazilian people are drinking this beer. That sounds kind of impressive but just how many is a brazilian?

Bottle found at Costi Bebidas. Thanks to my girlfriend for the ride! Since I began to drink and try Brazilian beers (a year ago), I’ve been, for the most part, utterly disappointed, and rarely did I get excited (it did happen but on a very infrequent basis). In this case, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised and I will add that maybe for the first time is this a Brazilian beer able to walk on American’s brewers toes (I’m referring to the good old USA since this beer is a Double IPA, a style emblematic of American endowments). Colour is hazy orange. It looks good. Good start! But we all know the look can frequently be misleading. So what about the nose? Oh my God! Is this real? In Brazil??? Mango, pears, peaches, brown sugar, toffee, maracuja and some pines hops. This can’t be real? What about the taste? The different previously-cited elements comes back with a vengeance with additional traces of caramel, maple syrup, dark dried fruits and lemon peels. Alcohol is also very present and very warming. This could easily passes as a very hoppy Barley wine! Too bad it’s so high-priced (11$ for a 330ml) when you could get analog stuff like this in the US for a fourth of it’s price. Nonetheless the price, this remains a world-class Brazilian beer. Parabens! ಥ‿ಥ

From the bottle, bought in São Paulo, Brasil. Drank it slightly too cold, but it didn’t spoil the taste. Citrus and herbs aroma, very hoppy. Hazy amber orange color, regular head. Medium to heavy bitterness, medium body, nice texture. Very good beer overall, outstanding among Brazilian beers. You almost don’t taste the alcohol, though it’s a 9,2%.

A reddish amber IPA with a thin off white head. In aroma, sweaty and murky caramel over herbaceous hops, grainy and doughy. In mouth, an oily malt overlayed with tongue tingling floral hops, warming alcohol, very nice. Bottle at Mondiale 2011, June 10 2011.

small frothy offwhite head. fair lacing. mostly diminishing. sparkling, translucent, thick, dark amber body. aroma: caramel, heavy hoppy, flowers, grass, citrus orange. if: moderate sweet heavy bitter. ff: light sweet harsh bitter; long duration. palate: light medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation and metallic and spicy finish. pesado amargor de lúpulo herbal, lembra grama, delicioso para quem aprecia tal característica, 100 IBU, persistente retrogosto, “ardido”, picante, apimentado, sou fã do cervejas de alto IBU, mas essa realmente passa um pouco dos limites, parece q falta balanço, é muito amargor e o dulçor (de casca de laranja) vai diminuindo R$ 23,80 Nota: 90 skol
