COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Just one sip of this Red Hopped Mama conjures up the history lesson we all learned as kids. Everyone knows the story of Captain Shaddock sailing from East India with pummel seeds in tow on his way to the Caribbean to change the face of fruit forever, but Shaddock could have never imagined that his Barbados forbidden fruit would find its way into the beer glass in front of you. From East India to the West Indies, from Texas to Comstock Park, the short legacy of this 300 year old little fruit that could, continues with you ordering up a cold one.

Very cloudy pour with one finger of off white head. Very citrusy nose with grapefruit definitely present. Dry and lightly bitter with notes if pink grapefruit juice.

Pours hazy orange with white head and some lacing. Aroma of grapefruit, but faint. Taste is tart and confusing with a dry and bitter finish.

Tasted on tap at the Kalamazoo Beer Exchange. It poured a cloudy orangish hue with minimal white head and no lacing. Fruity aroma with citrus hop taste.

Pretty good grapefruit IPA...may be a bit overdone with actual grapefruit juice as opposed to a grapefruity expression of hop varieties, but decent none-the-less.

draft at Holiday House, Grand Rapids. exactly as it says, no disappointment. Grapefruit heavy IPA, perhaps too much, juice, peel & pith its all there. great beer if you love grapefruits

Tap at Buffalo Wild Wings. Pours a very murky dark amber with a thick foamy head that fades very slowly. Smells like juicy grapefruit, some caramel, and off-putting herbal notes. Tastes like drinking thick grapefruit juice without the sourness. Not a big fan really. Finish leaves that herbal taste as well. Thicker and juicier than I like my IPA’s.

I love fruity and citrusy beers so this is a good one to try. Color is gold and hazy. Light on the hops.

Tap: Extremely murky, dingy amber-yellow hybrid, closing in on full opacity with a lightly frothy, eggshell cap. Aroma has some sweet, juicy grapefruit notes, a hint of crushed vitamin (medicinal-ish) with some musty, back-end grains. I like the grapefruit vibe but the medicinal hints are getting in the way. Tastes like grapefruit shandy; big grapefruit juice presence without the typical sideways tartness or even bitterness... Medicinal notes are much less present on the palate than the aroma, which is good. Ends quite abruptly, finishes super clean. Where are the hops? Isn’t this an IPA? Tastes more like a fruit beer, shandy, or even a wit... but not an IPA. Tasty, maybe I’m being generous because I like grapefruit so much. Improve the aroma a little & this could be a big hit.

Aroma of ruby red grapefruit. Tastes sweet, juicy, acidic and mildly bitter like the inner flesh of red grapefruit; it is almost like a cider. Palate, slightly fizzy. Overall; unique and enjoyable.
