Just one sip of this Red Hopped Mama conjures up the history lesson we all learned as kids. Everyone knows the story of Captain Shaddock sailing from East India with pummel seeds in tow on his way to the Caribbean to change the face of fruit forever, but Shaddock could have never imagined that his Barbados forbidden fruit would find its way into the beer glass in front of you. From East India to the West Indies, from Texas to Comstock Park, the short legacy of this 300 year old little fruit that could, continues with you ordering up a cold one.

On tap at Red Rock in Ypsilanti, Mi. Clear golden brew, no discernible head. Fantastic aroma of tart grapefruit / citrus. Taste is light bodied, dry, tart grapefruit / citrus hops emerge early in the swallow and flourish in the finish. Very hoppy but citrus done in a very light and agile manner - very fine.

UPDATED: SEP 20, 2015 I hate grapefruit....but I LOVE beer, so what does that mean when you combine the two? Gastronomic mayhem, the likes you donít see often in these parts. While I canít say I would go out of my way to EVER drink this again, I can also state without equivocation that I wouldnít avoid this like I do, Coors Light. So while not a ringing endorsement of the type reserved for Blatz this beer is not the flavor-equivalent of a mouthful of horse dung.

On tap at the source. Pours a slightly hazy yellow. I had them re-pour the taster of this because there was no grapefruit and no hoppy character at all. The re-pour was the same and I was told that it was correct. No grapefruit or citrus at all. Slight bitter hoppiness and uninteresting.

Not bad! Kind of looks funky though... Murky... Like the waters of a polluted tributary, making it difficult to see the mutant gilled crocodiles lurking just below the surface.

Pour on tap, clear orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes of grapefruit, orange peel, hints of biscuit into a bit of floral hops, some slight vanilla. Taste was a mix of vanilla, herbal and floral hops into some citrus, some slight lemon into a bit of biscuit, finishing fairly bitter. Not very grapefruit forward, but tasty.

Had this on tap at Perrin brewery a few days ago. Smells and looks remarkably like ruby red grapefruit juice. Tastes hoppy enough to stay within the style but the grapefruit notes are outstanding. Not overly bitter like a lot of beers that experiment with grapefruit. Very well done.

On tap at Heidelberg. The pour is a very orangey gold with a thin white head and no lace. The aroma is like a juice. Very citrusy. And a little sweet. That's all they'd going on. The flavor is also sweet and fruity not very IPA ish. I'm not a fan. The mouth feel is then and watery and the aftertaste is fruity and just not very good. Blah ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Mr. Cís. Hazy golden pour with a white head. Mild citrus hop aroma with a nice balance of grapefruit bitterness and sweetness. Very pleasant brew.
